September will be a huge and eventful month for the tech industry. We have a plethora of announcements coming from companies like Apple, Samsung, Motorola, HTC and others (we can thank IFA for most of this hype). This all seems to be happening during the first half of the month, but ZTE is willing to take a leap of faith and be the last to take the stage.

The Chinese manufacturer has taken it to Vine (out of all mediums out there) to announce a September 16th event, which is to take place in New York City. The Vine clip doesn’t tell us much – they simply ask us to come see “the next hot thing”. Is it a smartphone? A tablet? It’s anyone’s guess at this point, but we do hear ZTE has a killer budget phablet lined up

While ZTE is not very well-known in the USA, We’ll have you know they manufacture decent devices. They have been stepping up their game as they try to further penetrate western markets. We recently reviewed the ZTE Nubia 5S Mini and it fared very well. There’s no doubt America’s mobile competition is fierce, and we will see if ZTE is bringing the right weapons come September 16.

I doubt a Chinese company will ever be successful in ‘murica. There are always exceptions, but especially with fierce competition, I really doubt they’ll succeed there.

ZTE makes pretty good stuff. And they’ve made progress with the carriers. We have Moto and their adherence to budget / fast then there’s LG, Huawei, and HTC’s attempts as well. Either way, we’ll be there and see what they have in store. More competition = more goodness for consumers.

      • MasterMuffin

And more goodness = more goodness :D

ZTE really makes good stuff, they were the ones that made me an Android user in a way. 4 years ago, it was weird that someone had something else than Nokia or iPhone and my friend got a brand new ZTE Blade. It was so cool back then and few months later Galaxy S2 came and I got one because I had had a pleasant experience with Android :)

/just some random history (I’ve probably told a different story before, my memory is pretty bad), I’ve been awake for over 19h, I’ll go to bed :D

I agree. ZTE, Motorola, even Xiaomi and Oppo are making fantastic products.
However, MasterMuffin has a point. Down here in Amurica, we like to do dumb shit. Like using iphones.
Average American: ZTE? What’s that? *Resumes using iphone* LOL #Selfie #ermagerdiphonegettingbiggascreenmostinnovativethingeva. *Takes another selfie*

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t android more popular in the US than iPhone’s?

          • Jayfeather787

Yes, but not where I live.

Didn’t we have the same argument about Android a few years back? If they can make good enough phones, then i don’t see any difference between Chinese or South Korean. Also lets not forget that there’s a large demand for the OnePlus One in the US.

      • MasterMuffin

We’ll see the true demand after they start actually selling the device. Won’t be as large as you probably think, I bet.

        • Luka Mlinar

Don’t get me wrong, it will be a small step but a step into the US market non the less. I personally believe that any manufacturer trying to take a peace of that market is just plain stupid. Motorola spend over half a billion in advertizing for the Moto X alone and gets almost nothing in return. If it wasn’t for the Moto G and Motorola’s venture into the Indian market, their future would be questionable at best. OnePlus has the right idea on how to get the cash from the American market. Make a hype and get what you can without spending a dime on advertizing.
ZTE should expand into Europe. Motorola should expand to China. You never know what’s gonna trend in China, but if it turns out o be you, you will be pissing gold.

          • Cole Raney

Trying to take a piece of one of the biggest markets is stupid? How stupid of a statement is that?

Samsung took the US by storm, and owns quite a bit of the US market. LG is number 3 here. Do you think that it was stupid of LG and Samsung to try and take a piece of the US market? I would be willing to bet they wouldn’t think it was stupid or a waste of time.

          • Luka Mlinar

Do you know how much Samsung had and still has to pay for advertizing? More than Apple and that’s saying something. Why the hell would you pay so much money to be 3rd when you can be 3rd in India for a fraction of that. US is the hardest market to get into right now, it makes no sense to go there.

          • Cole Raney

Why would you not pay a lot to be third if you still make a profit? You could be in the US AND India. The US market still turns out a profit. So yes, it does make sense to go to the US market. It might take a big investment, but it would still be worth it.

          • MasterMuffin

            Agreed 101% :)

Moto no longer needs to be in china, they have Uncle Lenovo doing that.
