While some Android phones are enjoying the limelight with unofficial Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-based CyanogenMod 10 ROMs, they do, however, still suffer with the lack of functionality and disabled features. However, for Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc LT15i and Arc S LT18i owners, getting the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update doesn’t have to be hard.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROMs that are being used on other Android devices are still currently under development so in the meantime, you can still enjoy Google’s latest update with the Xperia Ice Bean custom ROM, which is a Jelly Bean-like ROM based on a stable build of Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Take note: this is not Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.  Rather, this is Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich with a lot of mods and tweaks (including Jelly Bean apps) that give it a Jelly Bean look and feel.

The custom ROM, developed by XDA member jader13524, includes a lot of Jelly Bean features such as the JB keyabord, Google Now, JB launcher, wallpapers, Play Store, Google Search, Play Books, Play Music, Play Magazines, and boot animations.  Not only that, it brings tasty apps and treats from the Sony Xperia S, including Notes, Walkman, Audio Mod, Visualizer, Clock, Messaging, Phone and Contacts, Calculator, Movies, Album, Xperia Launcher, Photo editor, and TV Launcher.  Apart from those, the ROM includes a host of other mods and hacks that are intended to improve the ROM's performance.

In this guide, learn how to flash Xperia Ice Bean ROM on Xperia Arc LT15i or Arc S LT18i.

Paul and I.T. are synonyms. If you need help with I.T.-related stuff, call on Paul. His experience with Android phones goes way back to the ancient single-core-phone days. But, he keeps himself up to date, so now he has a dual-core beast in his pocket, and is looking forward to getting his first quad-core monster, and when it comes, his first eight-core phone. Perhaps he should be called Mr. X-Core, where "X" equals the number of CPU cores.

I can’t even enter recovery mode anymore. How do I reformat it without entering CFW? The only thing my phone does now is just restarts every 10 seconds

  • Aravind

    Hi Paul,
The ROM seems to be good. But apparently after flashing to your ROM, my SD card is not getting detected and it says memory card damaged. Also the phone application is slow as the stock dialer app. Is it possible to let me know what needs to be done to overcome this problem. Now I’m back to my stock rom (LT15i). Do you suggest any ROM – Fast, reliable and smooth for daily use? How about CM10?

      18. Select Reboot system now to reboot your phone and now Wifi should work.

AND THAT’S ALL, YOU HAVE A STABLE ROM! TRY NOT TO UPDATE ANY BOOT RELATED THINGY I SUGGEST, AND NOTE 2 THINGS!

      - Do not update the KERNEL to DooMLord v05 or any other DooMLord’s Arc S Kernel, USB Debbugging may not work after this. It happened to me and I had to reflash back to v04 Kernel n USB debugging is working again! Just sharing on wat happened to me.

      - Keyboard may not work for first time, go to Settings and set the default keyboard to Andriod Keyboard (ASOP) to work!

    6. Install the boot loader now. To download go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520654 and download ONLY version v04! THESE TWO:

-[ARC/ARC S] DooMKernel ICS BETA v04 [1.6Ghz version only] (will show up as #1004)
    MD5HASH: 574aa2a873841ae487bcc3c578c2aec9, and
    -Wifi Modules for v04 kernel
    MD5HASH: c55cb0996228bd8647d6d1f46b6c9d99
Think 2.0Ghz is for Arc? No idea, but not needed anyway. Copy the file ARC-DoomKernel-ICS-BETA-v04-lower-boot.img to the folder where FASTBOOT.exe is.

    7. Enter Fastboot mode again and type in the following:

    fastboot.exe flash boot DoomKernel-ICS-BETA-v04-lower-boot.img

    8. Upon completion disconnect USB to off phone and on it again. This time you WILL SEE A GREEN MONSTER ‘DoomLord’ lol… When there is a blue LED appear during the boot, press the ‘BACK’ buttons a few times to enter the ClockworMod.

    9. Select Wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on the next screen that follows to confirm data wipe.

    10. Select Mounts and Storage, then select Format /system. Wait for a couple of seconds until formatting is complete then go back to the main recovery menu.

    3. UNLOCK the Bootloader now first. Refer to the following Sony’s site for the steps. Beware that your warranty may be void, think mine’s halfway gone alrdy haha.

    http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions

    4. You must have FASTBOOT.exe installed to unlock the bootloader. It comes with either Android SDK Tools or Androxyde Flashtool. Search and install that if you don’t have it. Enter the mode by pressing MENU and insert USB Cable, a blue LED will apper.

    5. Upon successfully unlocked the Bootloader, the cmd prompt will display a word ‘OKAY’ which I can recall. But anyway, this word means success! Disconnect USB to off the phone.

  • r2_Sgg

Unlockling bootloader for ur phone ARC is not required!!! if u really want this ROM to be installed. Follow this thread http://www.androidauthority.com/xperia-arc-lt15i-android-4-0-4-ics-boosthd-custom-rom-78996/ n exactly the steps to install the ROM, except u choose this ROM instead of the boosthd. Thats it! If FAIL, Restore original stock ROM alrdy no point trying…

  • Orion

How do I get out from the infinite boot loop to enable all these ?

    • r2_Sg

Seems like u forgotten a step while installing ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7… Take note, double-check everything (especially /system/bin/chargemon) before rebooting the phone to avoid getting into bootloops. Or just flash to stock firmware OS using Sony Ericsson’s software on the PC then try installing this
Xperia CWM Auto Installer from the google Play store page n then run it frm there to installthe CWM, internet connection is required for this. Then install this custom OS from the CWM after u boot into it.

  • sanjay kapoor

How can I flash this bcoz my phone is not rooted

  • BassemBaraya

    Hi,
    is this a pre-rooted rom ??

  • r2sg

Orion: For tht u need to enter the fastboot mode pls refer to google search, press a button then connect the USB port with ur com… flash the kernel with fastboot.exe. or revert with Sony Ericsson software…

    Yes… its a prerooted rom…

And yes must root n bootloader unlock for Arc S not needed for Arc to install Clockwork mod n then the rom …

Sry for the late reply BTW.

  • r2sg

Btw… I’m rSquare frm Sg. I post this becos I enjoyed this rom a lot. Its a very cool rom indeed … if u all lik my instructions n succeeded flashing the rom n appreciate my work just leave me a ‘thanks’ comment is enough. Hope my time n efforts r not wasted.
