Even though the Motorola Droid Razr held the title for the slimmest smartphone for quite some time, a new candidate was announced in today’s CES. Huawei’s Ascend P1 S smartphone was named as the thinnest smartphone at the CES 2012 while a serious challenger, the Motorola Droid 4 (also announced as the thinnest smartphone on the same day) measured 12.7mm thick. The Ascend P1 S got the title, considering it was only 6.68mm thin.
The phone is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor. Aside from its thinness, the smartphone has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display equipped with a 960×450 resolution on its Corning’s Gorilla Glass screen. It also has two cameras: an 8MP camera with LED flash at the back and a 1.3MP front facing camera. Video can be captured at 1080P and 720P, respectively.
Huawei also announced the Ascend P1, an almost similar unit except for its size and battery power. With the launch of these new phones, the image of Huawei with its American consumers is about to take a change from its long standing ‘low cost’ and ‘budget’ notion.
The two phones will start shipping in Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, China, Australia, and the Middle East in April. Options for colors include metallic black, cherry blossom pink, ceramic white, and more.
