Wireless charging mats have always seemed to miss the point a little bit in my opinion.

Is there really much of a difference between a wire trailing along my desk connected to a charging mat or one to my phone? Sure it’s a little neater and practical if you have multiple things to charge, but shouldn’t wireless charging involve keeping things out of sight wherever possible?

Well Reddit user morph2k4 has solved that little problem for me by installing his wireless Nokia DT-900 charging plate into a desk.

In the rather simple looking process, morph2k4 placed the charging plate inside his already hollowed out desk and secured it with a piece of sponge and some tape. It’s not exactly the most elegant solution, but it certainly works. This really makes me hope that we see this sort of idea integrated into some professional products in the near future. Until then I guess we’ve always got the option of doing it ourselves, so does anyone fancy taking on this little DIY project?

I got really excited to do this, but then I remembered I don’t own a desk. :(
