Box is kicking off its first developer challenge! They’re looking to inspire the next generation of brilliant business apps for Android, iOS, and webOS, and developers around the world are likely to be very tempted as they are offering a very healthy amount of cash for the winners, the chance to meet with venture capitalists, and much more.

Box is giving away $35,000 in cash to the top two apps, with InMobi also giving $10,000 in ad credits on their network. In addition, both of the winners will have a chance to meet with top VC Draper Fisher Jurvetson to pitch their applications for funding. The top 10 entries will also receive free HP TouchPads.

Developers have until September 9 to build innovative apps that use the box platform, including the new API’s provided by Box.

What it takes to win

Apps are going to be judged by industry veterans and winners will be selected on the basis of the following:

  • Depth of integration with the Box APIs
  • Utility
  • Level of Innovation
  • User Experience

The goal of this particular challenge is to build the next generation of mobile and tablet applications for businesses, mobile professionals, and others looking to take their work with them everywhere.

Apps are the future of any platform, and this great developer challenge from the prescient team at Box will likely result in some highly innovative, compelling, and useful apps – especially for those embracing tablets and smartphones and tablets in their businesses.

They are looking for apps that can assist in areas like document-based project management, document annotation apps, and other collaborative apps that are fresh, innovative, and packed full of utility and functionality.

Stay tuned on this – but it goes without saying that the winner of this challenge will likely have a long and prosperous career as a developer – and the apps that come out of this challenge are likely to be a harbinger of the wonderful things to come.

Application entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges from Accenture, AT&T, DFJ, HP, InMobi, Verizon, ReadWriteWeb, MobileCrunch, VentureBeat and Box.

You can find more information on the Box Mobile Dev Challenge page.

If you know any developers – don’t forget to let them know so they have a chance to win $25,000 and be sure to share the Box Mobile Dev Challenge on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn with the hashtag #boxdev.

Remember, the competition is likely to be pretty intense, and submissions are due by 11:59 PM PST on September 9, 2011 – so get working right away if you have something in your mind. Good luck!
