Visa Mobile now available for Android smartphones
Today Visa announced that its new Visa Mobile application for Google Android powered smartphones. The new application, which is available for download from the Android Market, will allow Chase Visa credit and debit card users to get extra services on their Android phone that relate to their Visa cards.
Perhaps the most useful of the 3 services is the alerts system. Chase Visa users will get near real-time alerts whenever a transaction occurs on their Visa card that meets a user set list of criteria, such as dollar amount or only when the transaction occurred in a foreign currency. If somebody is using your card, this app will let you know as soon as it happens.
Another feature of the application is providing users with special offers from select retailers. As stated in the Visa Mobile press release:
Fourteen leading national merchants are supporting the initial launch of Visa Mobile on Android by providing offers to Visa cardholders, including 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Bonefish Grill, eBags.com, eMusic.com, FragranceNet.com, Jos. A. Bank, Lenovo, Overstock.com, Planet Hollywood, Restaurant.com and Shoes.com. Visa cardholders will be able to receive special offers from these merchants directly to their Android powered mobile device, including discounts and coupons.
On top of all that, the Visa Mobile application is also integrated with the Google Maps application, so that users can find nearby retailers with special offers, or perhaps just locate the nearest ATM that accepts Visa cards.
As mentioned earlier, only Chase Visa card users can make use of the application at this time, but Visa plans on adding support for cards from other banks in the future.
