Video unboxing of the Acer A1 Liquid

Technolo Shree on YouTube has posted a nice video unboxing of the new Acer A1 Liquid, which recently became available in the UK.

The unboxing is of the white version, which we’re told is the only version available in the UK at this time.

Thanks for the unboxing, nice to see it ‘in the flesh’. Never used android before, need to upgrade my 5yr old brick and need a decent media player to replace my ipod and also need decent GPS.

Would be grateful if you could answer the following please.

What is the GPS like? quick to locate? does it do turn-by-turn instructions? Presumably the maps can be downloaded before going on a journey for people who don’t have a data service contract?

Very sexy, liquid looks much better than Rachel.

The GPS is like a regular turn by turn GPS system with voice guidance and a view that follows along with your route. But it also adds all of your normal Google features such as satellite view, search, traffic, etc. You don’t need to download maps because it’s always connected to Google Maps.

It’s limited to the Unites States right now, and is free. By Free, I mean you do not have to pay extra for the navigation feature like you do with all other phones. You do still need to have an unlimited data package with the Droid, $30.00/month on top of your normal contract.

    Thanks Chuck.

That sucks that I can’t cache maps. No way am I going to pay for a data service!

Until somebody comes up with caching version OR somebody like TangoGPS comes up with an Android port then I’m not buying an Android phone.

Fair enough. As with any other smartphone OS, just remember that the major lure to Android is its use of data. You need it for almost everything it does (marketplace, browser, google functionality, etc.)
