Verizon launches promo site for Android 2.0 powered Motorola Droid
The website that Verizon has launched for its new Android 2.0 (Eclair) based smartphone, the Motorola Droid, might be a bit cryptic, but it does appear to suggest that the new handset will be announced on October 30th – based on the weird countdown timer it displays.
The website takes a number of swipes at the iPhone (“iDon’t have a real keyboard”, “iDon’t run simultaneous apps”, etc) and reveals a few details about the device. We know it has a 5 megapixel camera and runs Android 2.0, we also know that it will play music, do video, and feature a “high-res” display. We don’t know if high-res means more than the normal half-VGA or not, but that seems quite possible.
You can watch the presentation here. When it’s all done, you can sign up to be notified when the device is available. You’ll also notice that the URL in your browser mentions Motorola by name, so there’s no mistaking that this is the Sholes/Droid phone we’ve been waiting for.
