Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 Mini get KitKat update on Verizon

Just yesterday the Samsung Galaxy S3 saw an update to Android 4.4.3 KitKat on AT&T’s network. Now Verizon has apparently followed suit with its own update, while also throwing a KitKat upgrade for Galaxy S4 Mini owners as well.

As you’d expect, the meat of both updates is the introduction of KitKat and all the goodies that come with it including SMS integration into Hangouts, Google printing, immersive mode and the list goes on. Additionally, you’ll also find a number of bug fixes highlighted in the S3 and S4 Mini’s perspective change-logs, and even some Verizon and Samsung-specific changes for each device such as Samsung Knox 2.0 support and the inclusion of ISIS Wallet on the GS3.

To get an even better look at what’s new, you can get the Galaxy S3’s change-log by clicking here, or the GS4 Mini here. As for when you can expect the update to roll out? In typical fashion, it could take a few days to reach your device, though you can always try upgrading manually by checking under device settings to see if an update is waiting.

For those that have already received the upgrade for either device, any other major changes worth noting? Be sure to let us know in the comments.

And bootloaders become locked even tighter. Thanks Verizon.

Does that mean Galaxy S3 Mini users might see kitkat? I hope Samsung does the right thing by not leaving S3 Mini users in the cold.

        Nope, not getting

        • Liam Garcia

          It has too little ram

          • MasterMuffin

1GB is plenty, just Samsung not wanting to update old phones for understandable but stupid reasons

CyanogenMod is an excellent option. It runs better than TW too.

I know I know, I have had CM and AOSP based ROMs for longer than I can remember on my S3 :)

S4 Mini gets kitkat. The S3 model that sold most doesn’t. Fuggen hell

Samsung said that the S3 did not have enough RAM. The S3 has 1GB while the S4 Mini has 1.5GB. The only reason why the US GS3 is getting Kit Kat is because it has a less powerful processor but 2GB of RAM.

        • MasterMuffin

I know all that, but S3 not having enough RAM is just not true.

          • A Skylit [S]unjΔy

That is true, I think the problem is TouchWiz.

            • MasterMuffin

Yup. I think they could just update to Kitkat without adding more bloat and everything would be fine, but it’s either the all TW features or nothing

            • A Skylit [S]unjΔy

Meh, I don’t like TouchWiz. My phone has Cyanogenmod and I couldn’t be happier.

            • MasterMuffin

Same here, but we’re the minority

“and the inclusion of ISIS Wallet on the GS3″
      Oh, the irony!

      • Liam Garcia

    • matthew hetrick

I have the Samsung S3 Verizon update to kitkat. I don’t see any real change and it seems to be dragging in some program where before it did not. I hope they finish the update with 4.4.3 and not just stop at 4.4.2. If they do then it was a waste of my time and theirs.

does it cause a lot bugs like 4.3 did for the vzw s3 like apps crashing, huge battery drain and lagging. if so then I want to stay right where I am at on 4.3. I do not care about having up to date os if that means It will have a lot of bugs.
