Unlocked Android phones having issues with ShopSavvy?

Users of unlocked G1′s have found that ShopSavvy, an application freely available in the Android Market, is no longer there after unlocking their phones.  After contacting ShopSavvy, it was discovered that although users may be in locations that are compatible with ShopSavvy, the distribution of ShopSavvy prevented its appearance in users’ phones.  ShopSavvy, an application that only works the US, UK, Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Holland, Japan and China, was designed to determine the user’s location by sensing compatible SIM cards.

So, without a T-Mobile USA SIM card, for example, the app can’t tell that a G1 being used with an AT&T card is within the USA.

For now, it seems as if users of unlocked handsets will continue to be, well… locked out.

What?? I’m in Canada /w an unlocked phone and the app worked fine…

One thing that wasn’t in the market was the whitepages app.. is that one released yet or is it a regional thing?

That application does appear to have been released about a month ago. Can anyone else with a locked G1 confirm this?

I guess you can’t be surprised if your phone loses some functionality after unlocking it.
