When it comes to attracting new users to existing phone models, adding a new color is always a cost effective approach. A color refresh gives consumers more options, while also offering them a way to stand out from the early adopters. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has already taken this approach in South Korea with a pink variant. Now comes a red model of the UK Samsung Galaxy, just in time for the holidays.
Is adding a new color enough to bring in new users this holiday season? UK online retailer Expansys is not only carrying the new 16GB red model, they are also selling it for just £429.99. This is about £100 less than the initial launch price of Samsung's flagship device. If you aren't into the idea of committing to a contract, this is a hard deal to beat.
Those of you who don't want to pay this much for a smartphone, you can get the Samsung Galaxy S3 even cheaper with a 2-year contract.
Is this the first time the S3 has appeared in the color red? No, the U.S. market also offers a red version through AT&T. There is one very big difference between these models, though. The UK one is an international model with a quad-core 1.4GHz Exynos and 1GB of RAM, versus the dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 and 2GB of RAM found in the United States.
Other specs in the international version of the Galaxy S3 include a 4.8-inch HD super AMOLED display, an 8MP rear cam, 1.9MP front cam, 1080 recording, 16/32/64GB storage options, 2100mAh battery, GPS, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4, microSD, 21Mbps HSPA and micro-SIM.
