Twitter to offer official Android application
Yesterday was an interesting day for Twitter. It marked the first ever developers conference for the micro-blog giant, called Chirp. If you are interested, the events continue throughout today too. The main take-home message from yesterday is that Twitter are going to offer an official Android application. Right now it is not clear as to whether this application will be brand new or whether it will be an existing piece of software, relaunched and re-branded. After all, Twitter have already purchased an existing app called Tweetie. This is now the official Twitter application for the iPhone, and is free.
Twitter CEO Evan Williams was the one to break the news. It comes after Fred Wilson, a technology specialist and investor, wrote a piece suggesting Twitter app developers begin to look elsewhere and stop spending time plugging holes in existing Twitter based products.
