Toys R Us Tabeo

In September, Toys R Us revealed it was preparing to release its own children’s tablet. Just in time for the holiday season, the Tabeo is now officially available online or directly at Toys R Us retail locations.

What kind of specs do you get with the Toys R Us Tabeo? It is a pretty basic device featuring a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor and 1GB of RAM. Other specs include a 800 x 480 display, micro-HDMI, micro-USB, Wi-Fi, a microphone, a front cam and 4GB of storage. There is also a special Tabeo app store in lieu of Google Play.

As you can see there isn’t much to get excited about here. On the other hand, the modest specs could be perfect for younger children. How much does the tablet cost? Just $149. Before you consider buying it, be aware that this is actually just a re-branded Archos ChildPad. Not only are they the same tablet, the ChildPad can be found for about $10 – $20 cheaper.

If you want something with more power and are willing to spend a little bit more, you could always pick up an entry-tablet like the Kindle Fire and add on a heavy-duty case. What do you think, interested in the Tabeo or not?
