The Bitspin team behind the highly praised design of the Timely alarm app has announced that it has been purchased by Google.
Here’s the full message posted on the company’s website:
We’re thrilled to announce that Bitspin is joining Google, where we’ll continue to do what we love: building great products that are delightful to use.
For new and existing users, Timely will continue to work as it always has. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded our app and provided feedback along the way; we truly appreciate all your support.
The app will continue to be available on the Google Play Store, with users now able to access the in-app content free of charge henceforward. Hopefully, the app won’t be pulled from the Play Store not that Google owns it.
It’s not clear what Bitspin will work on now that they have been acquired by Google – and it’s not clear how much the Search giant paid in this transaction – but it’ll certainly be interesting to see their design ideas and experience be put to work on future “great [Google] products,” that will be “delightful” to use, with special emphasis on future Android OS updates.

Hey, um… Timely is an ALARM clock app, not a weather app. The link in your story says “Timely is a great new alarm clock app, available now in the Play Store”. You might want to have someone fix that. (And remove this comment when its fixed)
” Hopefully, the app won’t be pulled from the Play Store not that Google owns it” now ?
weather app? I believe it is a typo.
Wow this weather, I mean alarm app, looks neat.
I’ll skip the weather app part because everyone has already noticed it :D I’ll rather say: now that it’s completely free, it’s actually an awesome app!
Need a site editor? I can do it for free :-)
EXCELLENT NEWS! I was just thinking how beautiful this app is, and how nice it would be if there were a lot more apps like this, that make using them an absolute pleasure. Maybe they will be encouraged to create other system apps for android v5… we can only hope.
I like Timely, but I’m not giving up using Sleep as Android, which is incredible.
i preferer AVG’s alarm clock that has a lot of options
Google is taking design more and more seriously, this is a very good thing for all!!
At the end of the day, this means nothing as most Android phones outside of Nexus and Moto devices will be covered by bloat skins for most people to see Google’s design skills anyway.
What about all of Google’s apps??? And everything else they do , not just on android??
Not surprised at all with this considering that Android is heading towards the transparent look starting with Kitkat. This app does a really good job in terms of aesthetics with transparency so the developers would definitely help Google with their goal.
The same company/team did the Tasks app – I wonder what that will mean for Google Tasks?
HOW ABOUT YOU BUY THE POWERAMP TEAM YOU FUCKS!?!?
PowerAmp does not even have support cloud and smb. Google can better integrate Viper4Android
The Led clock isn’t the same like in the screenshots
“May come to Android”? It is already there. Have been using it for quite a while now.
As in built into the operating system.
