Temple Run

It looks like Disney and Imangi Studios are teaming up again, this time for the movie tie-in game for the upcoming Oz the Great and Powerful. The new crossover game is appropriately named Temple Run: Oz.

The adventure takes us back to the familiar yellow brick road, and also brings us into contact with dark forests and even the clouds above. As typical of the Temple Run series, much of the action revolves around tilting and swiping your mobile device to guide your character through the madness that ensues.

Like Temple Run: Brave, this Disney variant also includes a unique feature to set it apart from the pack. While Brave introduced a shooting mechanic, Oz adds its own mini-game featuring balloon rides. Once aboard your hot air balloon, a player simply tilts their device to steer and collect coins. The balloon ride portion of the game is certainly a bit more relaxed that the typical running and dodging involved in the game.

If you are hoping for the movie’s storyline to play a major role in this tie-in game, you will be a bit disappointed. Despite the connecton to the new movie, Temple Run: Oz largely plays out like a typical Temple Run experience, meaning no real goals and no story.

The game is available now through the Play Store for $.99. In addition to the game’s initial cost, there are plenty of in-app purchases to keep you occupied. So is it worth buying? That really depends. If you love Temple Run and the countless clones out there, sure. If you have had your fill of this kind of game, you might want to pass.
