Intel’s Jelly Bean ports are ready, now it’s up to the carriers

Every major player seems to be struggling with sticking to deadlines and getting Jelly Bean out. The surprise might come from someone who’s just recently dipped into Android -- Intel has told PcWorld it has 4.1 ports ready for its rather modest Android line-up, with the company’s employees already using Jelly Bean on their Medfield-based devices.

Intel, the world’s number one supplier of PC processors, has neglected getting in the Android game until a few months ago, thus allowing ARM to easily dominate the market. The Santa Clara-based company is now finally looking to make a push in the Android world, and, while its first steps might seem a bit hesitant, its future plans are pretty bold.

There might not be many Intel-based Android gadgets available for sale right now, but, according to official claims, they will soon get Jelly Bean updates. The news comes from the guys at PCWorld, who’ve had a very short talk with Suzy Greenberg, one of Intel’s spokespersons.

Intel Medfield-powered Lava Xolo X900 gets benchmarked, performs surprisingly well

We’ve been waiting for a while now to see Intel make its push into the mobile CPU market and challenge Nvidia and Qualcomm’s leading positions in the industry. While we didn’t expect much from the Lava Xolo X900, the first smartphone to be powered by a Medfield processor, we might be in for a surprise.

The X900 has just been released in India, the only market where it is currently set to make an appearance, and the first tests and benchmarks, conducted by the guys at Anandtech, show that this little guy is no pushover. Even though it’s powered by a single-core 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2460 processor, the Xolo X900 should prove a worthy competitor for several dual-core [...]

It must’ve been hard for Intel to watch Qualcomm, Nvidia, and, to a lesser extent, Texas Instrument gaining such a strong foothold in the mobile CPU industry over the last couple of years.  But while the Santa Clara based company has been quite late to the party, we sort of expected to see Intel making a grand entrance. Nevertheless, the first Medfield smartphone will come from one relatively unknown Lava company in India.

Dubbed Xolo X900, the first to market Intel-inside Android phone is powered by a 1.6GHz Medfield processor. Beyond the processor that it is shipping with and the expected Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread flavor, other details are still unknown. [...]
