Today Motorola made good on its promise that we’d see the new CLIQ offered by Orange UK as the DEXT. The official press release came out of Orange today, and the device is set to be available in mid-October, the same time frame we’ve been hearing for T-Mobile USA’s version. We’ve pasted in a demo video produced by Orange for your enjoyment. It’s available after the jump.
We already know that the DEXT will be launched on Orange UK in Q4 of this year. What we didn’t know is when. The DEXT/CLIQ is the new Android based device from Motorola and sports two different names depending on whether you are stateside or not. Those living outside of America will become increasingly familiar with the DEXT, while those living in will recognize the CLIQ. Orange UK have confirmed that the DEXT will become available in early October, with preorders going live on September 22nd. We are still holding our breath for pricing. Now, according to BGR, the CLIQ …
The Pulse, offered by T-Mobile, has just been officially ousted as the company’s third Android offering. As mentioned before, the device is produced by Huawei and offers a sleek and smooth chrome shell along with HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, and a 3.2 megapixel camera. Offering 300 hours of standby and 210 minutes of talk time, the Pulse is the first PAYG Android device available and doesn’t look too shabby for the money. Speaking of which, it will set you back £179.99 in October, and depending on the exchange rates, this is around US$295. Not too bad. There …
T-Mobile UK has yet to confirm the availability date of its G2 Touch (HTC Hero) smartphone, noting that it’s not been delayed since the date was never set. However, the launch announcement that originally went out did specify “mid-July”, so that certainly would mean sooner rather than later. T-Mobile Germany, for its part, has said that the phone will be available in early August (“ab Anfang August”). Orange UK still lists the device as “coming soon.”
Today Orange UK announced that it will be adding the HTC Hero to its handset portfolio. The phone will be available free to customers who sign up for a 24 month £39.15/mo contract, which includes 1200 network minutes, unlimited text, and internet browsing. It will be available in “early July”, though we’ve been told by other, non-Orange retail sources that the device will officially be available from distributers on July 3rd (though not necessarily through Orange). Below is a video demo of the device that Orange posted.
The news on the wire suggests that Orange may be the first in the UK to receive the ‘HTC Hero’. Although the device has been seen around town already and the new UI for the device has already been snapped, there has been no word on the official specifications of the device. If the reports are accurate, it won’t be hitting any home runs, but may offer HSDPA connectivity, a 3MP camera and Bluetooth; all completely expected, and certainly nothing out of the ordinary. The device is said to be hitting the USA in August, but currently we have no …
Russell over at MobileBurn.com is still working on his written review of the HTC Magic for Vodafone UK, but in the mean time I have spliced together all of the high-def video footage he has shot and uploaded the videos to YouTube. Part one is below. Part two and three are available after the jump.
MobileBurn.com’s Russell Jefferies is in the process of doing a review of the new HTC Magic for Vodafone and took some time out to provides us with some photos and an unboxing video for your viewing pleasure. The full video and review will be available soon on MobileBurn.com, and we’ll be sure to let you know right here when it’s ready. Photo gallery after the jump.
A day after it was promised, the HTC Magic limped into Vodafone stores across the UK this Saturday, the 2nd of May. Most stores had not even updated their shop fronts with any HTC Magic advertisements or general goodies by 11am. Only one of the three stores in Oxford’s busy city centre had updated their awnings to replace the small HTC Magic logo with an equally small, “it’s here” sign. The price plans are somewhat steep compared to online, but it is also worth noting that both online and in store prices now exclude the 12 month price plan options. …
Today we took a trip into Soho, London, UK, to visit Vodafone’s invite only launch for the HTC Magic. The private members club was a fitting venue for the UK launch of one of the most highly anticipated phones of the summer. Although somewhat hard to find, the venue provided an intimate spot for us to have a face to face with Vodafone about the HTC Magic, Vodafone’s decision to get involved with Android and their plans for the future. Here’s what we learnt. First, a few quick important points. If you want to grab yourself a Magic and you …
Yesterday we attended Acer’s UK press launch for its upcoming range of smartphones. Although we had already spoken to Acer at MWC in Barcelona last month, we wanted to see whether we could squeeze any more information out of the company regarding the possibility of an Acer Android handset. Held at a suitable hotel in Covent Garden, London, the launch consisted of hands-on time with the 4 previously announced Windows Mobile smart-phones and two netbooks, one running Windows and another running Linux. This was then followed by an hour long presentation from Aymer De Lencquesaing (Senior Corporate VP, President Acer …
It appears that the RC9 firmware update for UK based T-Mobile G1 users has started sprouting up. RC9 is the UK’s version of the RC33 firmware that we in the states received recently. [via TalkAndroid]
T-Mobile UK has dropped the minimum 18 month contract required to get a T-Mobile G1 for free from £40 to £30 per month. The £30 “Combi” plan includes 700 minutes of talk time, unlimited texting, and free access to the internet. The older £40 Combi plan is still available, and offers 100 additional minutes of talk time monthly. More information is available from the T-Mobile UK website. [via Mobile Today]
This one is a bit scary for any Android fans that plan on doing some international travel. AndroidGuys.com has received an email from a G1 owner who claims to have been socked with a $102 data roaming charge after having spent two weeks in the United Kingdom – even when he had the phone’s data roaming setting disabled. Staff from a T-Mobile store had told our poor victim that as long as he stayed away from internet services on the phone, he would be OK. According to the owner, he disabled data roaming, synching, and 3G on his handset before …
Our friends across the pond seemingly have started receiving a new RC8 firmware update for their UK based T-Mobile G1 smartphones. According to Talk Android, the update appears to be pretty much the same as the USA’s RC29/RC30 updates.
