10-inch Toshiba Thrive gets OTA Android 4.0 update, 7-incher still waiting

by: AdrianAugust 7, 2012

Now that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has been launched, it surely is nice to see more and more tech manufacturers rolling out… ICS updates to their gadgets. Wait, what?

Yes, guys, I’m afraid that, as much as we’d like to see JB upgrades flowing in, there are still a whole lot of devices which have been left out of the Android 4.0 mix and they absolutely have to get that software leap before moving forward.

The latest such gadget, which was supposed to get the Ice Cream Sandwich treatment months ago, is Toshiba’s 10-inch Thrive tablet. The tab is currently being upgraded to ICS over-the-air, according to official statements on Toshiba’s [...]

ICS update delayed further for Toshiba Thrive and Thrive 7

by: Ankit BanerjeeJune 25, 2012

The fight for the mobile OS supremacy has been heating up these last few weeks, with Apple’s announcement of iOS 6 and Microsoft’s recent showcase of Windows Phone 8. With Google I/O right around the corner, we are expecting quite a few announcements from Google, including a new low-cost but high-spec tablet, along with the next iteration of Android, likely to be Android 4.1 Jellybean.

While things are moving along nicely as far as new releases are concerned, it isn’t all good news for consumers who own “older” Android devices. Many of them are still waiting for an official update to Android 4.0, and the delays, caused for whatever reason, [...]

by: Alvin YbañezSeptember 28, 2011

If you loved Toshiba’s 10.1-inch tablet, then you will certainly drool over the slimmer, smaller, better-resolutioned 7-inch Toshiba THRiVE tablet coming this December, in time for the holidays. Toshiba’s Digital Products Division announced the upcoming tablet yesterday.

To be called the Toshiba THRiVE 7” Tablet, the Android device will be on store shelves, in online retailers, and on ToshibaDirect.com in early December. Although Toshiba has not officially announced the tablet’s price, rumors say it will cost somewhere around US$400.

Toshiba claims that this will be the first 7-inch tablet that offers the U.S. market a “true HD display” combined with a selection [...]

Toshiba Unveils Super-thin AT200, Thinner than Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or iPad 2

by: Alvin YbañezSeptember 2, 2011

Toshiba has made it official. The AT200 is Toshiba’s codename for their ultra-thin Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet to succeed the earlier Toshiba THRiVE.

According to Toshiba, the tablet will be 7.7 mm thick and weighs about 558 grams, making it one of the thinnest Honeycomb tablets ever made.

Toshiba did not provide pricing or availability for the super-slim tablet, but it’s reasonable to expect a release date sooner than later.

The 10.1-inch Toshiba AT200 has a 1280×800-resolution display and includes full-size slots for laptops (microSD, microUSB, and Mini HDMI). A 1.2-GHz dual-core Texas Instruments processor will be powering the tab, along [...]

by: Alvin YbañezSeptember 1, 2011

While the rumored Toshiba Excite is being flaunted off at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA 2011) in Berlin, its thicker predecessor–the Toshiba THRiVE–is on its way to the United Kingdom.

The Toshiba THRiVE will be called the Toshiba AT100 when it reaches the U.K.

The product page for the Toshiba AT100 is already up at the Toshiba Europe website and shows the 16-gigabyte model.  There is no confirmation yet whether 8-GB and 32-GB models will also be made available.  No pricing information has been revealed yet either.

The Toshiba AT100 runs Android 3.1 Honeycomb.  It has a 10.1-inch screen (1280×800 resolution) and a dual-core NVIDIA [...]

Toshiba Excite Rumored to Be Name of Toshiba’s New Ultra-slim Tablet

by: Alvin YbañezAugust 30, 2011

If U.S. trademark filings and domain name registrations were to serve as clues, Toshiba’s upcoming ultra-thin tablet just might have given away its upcoming name–the Toshiba Excite.

Android Police reports that Babyfacemagee, one of the administrators of ThriveForums.com, found some recent trademark filings that gave an idea of the name for Toshiba’s upcoming tab.  Babyfacemagee is the same guy who discovered the name “Thrive” for the earlier Toshiba tablet.

Babyfacemagee reportedly found U.S trademark filings for the term ‘EXCITE’.  The trademark filing was from Toshiba American Information Systems and was categorized for use for ‘Tablet Computers.’  The [...]

Ultra-thin Successor for Toshiba THRiVE to Debut at IFA 2011

by: Carl ParkerAugust 29, 2011

Toshiba is preparing to unleash a new tablet this week at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA 2011) in Berlin. This time, Toshiba’s new tablet is much thinner and is poised to better compete with the Apple iPad and other leading brands of Android tablets.

The picture below reveals the comparative thickness of the Toshiba THRiVE and the new tablet from Toshiba.

As you can see, this new tablet will definitely be lighter, thinner, and improved. We can expect it to be much better than the THRiVE with all enhancements and techy features available for it.

This soon-to-be-released tablet is said to have an ultra thin body, but will still contain ports and [...]
