“More is always better” is a statement that seemingly holds true in the world of technology. More cores and faster processors, higher RAM, higher resolution Super LCD or AMOLED displays, bigger batteries, and more storage capacity. The capabilities of handheld devices increasingly mimic PCs, and naturally, the expectations we have from our devices have also changed over time. Just when we thought that mobile devices are finally “good enough”, things changed again. All our storage needs were moved up “to the heavens” with the introduction of cloud computing and storage. From my own experience, all my photos are on Dropbox, …
Gone are the days when a cloud used to be just something you’d gaze up at the sky to see, something that signaled a sunny day or heavy rain. Now, in the 21st century, the cloud has taken on a whole new meaning, and tech companies such as Google, Apple, Samsung, and LG, to name a few, have dished out their own offerings of cloud storage services to appease our growing need to have access to our files anywhere and anytime. Apps are also gaining just as much headway in the cloud storage department, with apps like ZeroPC Cloud Navigator, …
Spotify is the premier online music streaming app available across all platforms, giving users access to all their favorite music, at home or on the go. But, it has not been without issues, especially for its Android users. The Android app was last updated in November 2011 and the app is still quite unstable. Spotify’s customer support forums are full of complaints about offline access, playlist syncing, and an outdated user interface. The current app also doesn’t officially support Android 4.0 and, as such, running the app on an ICS device requires users to put up with a wide range …
You love movies. Moreover, you are also an obsessive-compulsive collector of videos. Just about any category, from action movies to chick flicks, you are crazy about them. But there is one problem – videos consume way too much storage space. The solution? The cloud! Thanks to the cloud, local storage is heading the way of VCRs, to be replaced by streaming on-demand video services, the current “finger-lickin’ good” option for movie buffs. Unless you intend to horde gargantuan amounts of data on your Android smartphone or tablet, on-demand video streaming apps are the best way to watch your favorite …
Kainy is a new Android app from “indie” developer Jean-Sebastian Royer that has managed to raise quite a few interested eyebrows. Although not one of the most polished apps around, the Kainy Android app (available for $5.04 in Google Play) works paired with its free PC counterpart, allowing you to stream games from your Windows PC to your Android smartphone or tablet. While not entirely visionary – as I’ll explain by the end of this article — the app is an excellent example on how the concept of streaming might be used in the future to intermediate the delivery of …

Piracy has been one of the big issues of the Internet ever since megabyte-speed lines and smaller video files were developed. Music and movies are the usual targets for piracy – mostly because they’re really expensive when it comes down to it. Which is why downloads are at an all-time high and media company profits are getting lower. One of the ways that the industry has tried to combat this is to sue a lot of people. However, that just made the studios more unpopular and encouraged media pirates everywhere. However, some of them seemed to have learned their lesson. …

Good news for streaming radio fans as two big-name applications hit the Android Market this week. First, we have the NPR News application which gives Android users an easy way to access NPR content, including NPR’s top stories, individual NPR radio stations, and popular podcasts. If your listening preferences extend beyond NPR, then iheartradio may fit the bill. Similar to the iPhone and BlackBerry versions, the Android version of iheartradio provides access to streaming broadcasts from over 400 local radio stations, exclusive on demand content, and local traffic reports. Both applications are available for free from the Android Market. [via …
Qik has updated the Android version of its popular live streaming application for mobile phones. Updates for Non-DROID owners are more practical than flashy and include bug fixes to improve performance and lower battery consumption. All present and future Qikkers out there can download either the updated application from the Android Market or the APK file directly from Qik’s website. Happy high-res Qikking!
The Android Market is going mainstream with some high profile applications making their way into the catalog. Earlier this week, Yelp, the popular online city guide, released a mobile application for the Android platform. The Yelp application grabs your location from your GPS and presents you with ratings, reviews, and photos of local restaurants and businesses. The application can also launch a movable Google Map which pinpoints the location of the business of interest and provides directions from your current location. Unlike the iPhone version, which allows users to submit photos and quick tips from their mobile phone, the Android …

Data on the phone can be easily uploaded to the SugarSync cloud and data already in the cloud can be easily accessed by the mobile phone. SugarSync also announced that it is adding several exciting new features to its SugarSync application. The latest version of SugarSync, updated on …
The popular streaming podcast application Stitcher made its official debut in the Android Market last week and we couldn’t wait to put the Android version through its paces. For those unfamiliar with Stitcher, it is a podcast streaming application that lets you queue up your favorite podcasts and play them back sequentially in a streaming radio style format. Unlike other podcast applications that download the audio content to your device’s internal storage, Stitcher streams the content over your active wireless connection. Streaming media over a cellular connection is a difficult task, so hit the jump to see how Stitcher fares.

Those running Android on their handsets can now access numerous entertainment channels from GoTV, including “Hip Hop Official” through to “True Country”.
