Dell Streak available 13 August $550

Despite its availability within the UK, Dell have only just announced the US release date of the Streak. The Dell Streak is a 5-inch Android smartphone/tablet. Dell are releasing the Streak with AT&T as the chosen carrier. It will cost $549.99 without a contract or $299.99 if you sign up for a 2 year 3G service plan with AT&T. What seems most surprising about the prices is the fact that the $550 isn’t actually that bad, while the $299.99 subsidized version seems rather costly . For your money you will receive Android 1.6 (with 2.2 coming soon), the aforementioned 5-inch …

Dell Streak running Android 2.1

The Dell Streak has been available in the UK for a while now, plodding away running Android 1.6. It isn’t even available in the US yet, but the device is set to receive an update to Android 2.1 in the near future. Engadget have managed to get a sneak peak of the device running the goodies, but it’s not all rosey. The device is still optimised for landscale mode and the home screen only offers support for 24 icons instead of 32. Indeed, Android 2.2 is out now, so perhaps Dell will release this pupy directly with Android 2.2 stateside. …

Amazon Kindle application for Android?

The Dell Mini 5 seems to be picking up pace at the moment, and the latest development with this piece of kit includes a host of services from Amazon preinstalled to the hardware. The most interesting of which is a Kindle application. We’re reading inbetween the lines somewhat here as all the picture displays is a bullet point staying “Kindle Book Reader Applications”. Nonetheless, to our ears this can mean only one thing. Of course we are expecting the device to already come with Amazon’s MP3 store preinstalled as this is already the case on a number of other Android …

It is said to feature a wide-VGA (800  480 pixel) capacitive touchscreen display, a 5 megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash, and 3G connectivity.  That part souds good.  The part that concerns me is the supposed 1300mAh battery.  Considering that the HTC Imagio and other recent devices that have crossed my desk come equipped with 1500mAh batteries, I wonder just how long a 3G …
