Sony faced a PR nightmare when one of its UK-based spokespersons spilled the beans on the company’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update plan for the 2011 Xperia smartphones, or better said, lack thereof. To calm the tension, the HQ office has now issued a corrective statement.
As posted on Sony’s blog, they said that earlier confirmation about the snubbing of last year’s Xperia phones from receiving Jelly Bean update had been given out “in error”. What’s factual is that the company is still “actively investigating Android OS upgrades for all devices”, while focusing on rolling out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for its Xperia devices.
While it’s a nice [...]
Compared to its peers, Sony has been rather generous in bringing the latest Android OS update to yesteryear’s Xperia phones. But it looks like the dessert treat will stop at Ice Cream Sandwich for owners of Xperia phones that were released in 2011.
The discouraging news came from Sony Mobile UK Product Manager John Cooper, who has been answering questions about the Jelly Bean upgrade on the company’s Facebook page. In separate instances, Cooper confirmed that the Xperia arc S and the Xperia Mini Pro will not be getting the buttery smooth update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
If Sony doesn’t see the Xperia arc S, which has better specs compared to other 2011 [...]
While Samsung, HTC, Motorola, and LG are all upsetting their users with delays and lack of communication on the ICS updates, Sony is probably doing the absolute best job in bringing the latest and greatest Android version to its entire line-up of mobile devices.
The latest Sony smartphone to get Android 4.0 is a quirky 3-incher with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that can’t even be called mid-ranger based on its tech specs. The Xperia Mini Pro is powered by a modest single-core 1 GHz Qualcomm Scorpion processor and features 512 MB of RAM, 400 MB of on-board storage (!) and a 320 x 480 pixels resolution touchscreen. But Sony has still found a way to support ICS on the [...]
There are several ways for you to enjoy Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich: buy a new phone that supports ICS, wait for the official updates for your phone (if the phone manufacturer has one coming for your phone), or install an ICS-based custom ROM such as CyanogenMod 9 on your mobile phone. For older Android phone models such as the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro, installing custom ROMs might be the only way for you to taste the sweetness of Ice Cream Sandwich.
Thanks to XDA Developers member paul-xxx, you can now enjoy Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich on your Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro via CyanogenMod 9. Flashing the ROM lets you enjoy the features of ICS [...]
