You know television technology is changing when “live tv” is talked about as an unassuming, almost secondary feature. That is the growing trend with the advent of Smart TVs, and set top boxes that are now being called internet players. One such “internet player” is the Sony NSZ-GS7 set-top box with Google TV.
We’ve been hearing a lot about the Sony Google TV since its announcement during this year’s CES back in February. Late last month, we finally got our hands on some release dates for the UK, Australia, and the US. In line with the announcement, and in fact, a few days earlier, the Sony NSZ-GS7 is now available and being shipped [...]
We’ve been hearing about Sony’s new line of Google TV-enabled devices for many months, but, until recently, we knew nothing about the gadgets’ pricing and availability. The first piece of information on those fronts came last week, when we spotted Sony’s NSZ-GS7 set-top box up for pre-order at US retailer J&R, which could only mean that the official release is just around the corner.
The retailer’s listing also provided the first piece of evidence on pricing, but, much to our surprise, the pre-order page disappeared soon after. However, we now have some official details coming straight from Sony that confirm once and for all, the device’s US availability, but also [...]
Although we haven’t heard anything about Sony’s future line of Google TV-enabled devices for a while, we knew that the Japanese electronics giant didn’t abandon the project just yet. Now we finally have confirmation about one device hitting the US in the near future, and the best news regarding it is that its price is significantly lower than what we expected back in April.
The NSZ-GS7 set-top box is up for pre-order over at J&R for a measly $200 and, while there are still a few things to be revealed about the device, we can already see it become popular. The “Network Media Player” looks pretty much the same it did back in April, when it was revealed to come to [...]
As excited as we were more than a year ago, when we first heard of the Google TV concept, we must admit that we were pretty disappointed by how the concept turned out to be in reality.
The pricing and lack of content were the two biggest problems users had with Google TV, so it’s no wonder that the device didn’t draw the kind of public that Google and its partners expected. The second generation of Google TVs should mix things up a bit, as there are now more important manufacturers jumping on the bandwagon.
Also, we’ve heard talk about the the price of the Smart TV platform being reduced, mostly by replacing Intel chips with ARM processors. Or not? Sony, [...]
If you’re looking forward to using the current devices under the Sony Google TV line, you will be pleased to know that GTVHacker has given a root for them. The root, called ‘The GTVHacker Sony Recovery Downgrader & Rebooter,’ gives users the ability to root and run custom unsigned kernels on their Sony Google TV device.
So what does this root really do? Even though it isn’t quick and easy, the root will convert your Sony Google TV (as well as your Google TV 2.0 powered Blu-ray player) into a custom kernel running machine. In layman’s terms, this will give you the ability to expand the capabilities of the internet TV platform of the device. Moreover, you can stream [...]
