by: Gary SimsNovember 5, 2012
During an internal Samsung event to mark the 43rd anniversary of Samsung Electronics, a subsidiary of the Samsung Group which is responsible for creating Samsung's Android smartphones, the company's CEO called on all executives and employees to find new growth engines to help Samsung succeed during the coming years. Kwon Oh-hyun, Samsung Electronics vice chairman and CEO said to those gathered, "If you are satisfied with what you have achieved so far, then we will fall down suddenly. For a bright future, Samsung shouldn't stop its vigorous efforts to find the next cash generators."

Two mysterious Samsung tablets and two new Galaxy Note 2 variants visit the FCC

by: AdrianOctober 4, 2012
The FCC is under Samsung siege, with four new devices getting the regulatory approvals just a couple of days after we spotted the AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Among the four new gadgets, there are, as expected, the other two Note 2 models officially announced as coming this fall, but also a pair of rather mysterious Android tablets.

Trial reveals Samsung and Apple U.S. sales figures

by: Simon HillAugust 10, 2012

One great side effect of the Apple vs Samsung trial is that all sorts of juicy details and secrets are revealed. Exact sales figures for all the different models can be difficult to come by, but yesterday we got a look at the U.S. sales figures for Samsung and Apple. You’ll never guess what Samsung’s top selling phone was. Go on, have a guess.

If you somehow managed to divine the answer as the Samsung Galaxy Prevail carried by Boost Mobile, then give yourself a pat on the back. This budget Android smartphone topped the chart, but that’s because of Samsung’s habit of offering slightly different versions of the same phone on different carriers under different names. If [...]

7-inch iPad Mini mentioned in internal Apple Galaxy Tab email [screenshot]

by: Chris SmithAugust 5, 2012

A couple a days ago we talked about two important testimonies in the U.S. Apple vs Samsung court, Phil Shiller’s and Scott Forstall’s. Both are important figures inside Apple, both Senior Vice Presidents – of Worldwide Marketing and iOS Software, respectively – so it’s certainly interesting to hear them speak about iPhone, iPad and Samsung while under oath.

The email

One of the interesting tidbits of Forstall’s testimony was a reference to an internal email sent by Eddy Cue, who’s also a Senior Vice President of Apple’s, dealing with Internet Services and Software, back in 2011 and referring to the iPad mini – although that product [...]

UK judge rules that Galaxy Tab does not infringe on the iPad’s design, “not as cool”

by: Will G.July 10, 2012

One of Apple’s legal claims against Samsung, based on the alleged similarity between the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the iPad, was thrown away in an UK court last week. A British High Judge, Colin Biriss ruled that there is a big difference between both products, although he did noted that there are some design similarities.

What’s interesting is that the judge’s somehow expressed his appreciation for Apple’s designs. Biriss stated that the Galaxy Tab devices “do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design”. The judge also said that even [...]

Amazon Galaxy Note 10.1 pre-order now available, tablet shipping in 3-5 weeks

by: Chris SmithJune 13, 2012

Those of you looking to buy a brand new Android tablet should know that Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for one of Samsung’s 2012 tablets, the Galaxy Note 10.1. The device, announced back at MWC 2012, costs $549.99 and it will be shipped in 3 to 5 weeks, so there’s plenty of waiting in store for you. For that amount of cash you’ll be getting the 32GB Galaxy Note 10.1 Wi-Fi version.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 is the first device from Samsung’s second 10.1-inch tablet family after the Galaxy Tab 10.1 line – with the later being comprised of two tablet generations: Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1). Just like its smaller brethren [...]

Samsung giving away $4.08 million in prize money for Android developers who can produce the goods

by: Bams SadewoMay 9, 2012

Apps people, apps! What good are our tablets, smartphones or phablets with massively powerful multi-core processing under the hood if they don’t have apps that can push the hardware to its limits? That’s possibly the thinking behind Samsung’s Smart App Challenge 2012, a global competition that the Korean company hopes will help boost the number of proprietary apps for their Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note.  Sammy has divided the contest into two categories – “Samsung Apps Super Apps” and “Best S Pen Apps” – and will hand out $4.08 million in prize money to 80 winners. That’s a lot of moolah, folks. And Samsung, that’s a terrible name for a contest, just [...]
