During an internal Samsung event to mark the 43rd anniversary of Samsung Electronics, a subsidiary of the Samsung Group which is responsible for creating Samsung’s Android smartphones, the company’s CEO called on all executives and employees to find new growth engines to help Samsung succeed during the coming years. Kwon Oh-hyun, Samsung Electronics vice chairman and CEO said to those gathered, “If you are satisfied with what you have achieved so far, then we will fall down suddenly. The FCC is under Samsung siege, with four new devices getting the regulatory approvals just a couple of days after we spotted the AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Among the four new gadgets, there are, as expected, the other two Note 2 models officially announced as coming this fall, but also a pair of rather mysterious Android tablets.

One great side effect of the Apple vs Samsung trial is that all sorts of juicy details and secrets are revealed. Exact sales figures for all the different models can be difficult to come by, but yesterday we got a look at the U.S. sales figures for Samsung and Apple. You’ll never guess what Samsung’s top selling phone was. Go on, have a guess. A couple a days ago we talked about two important testimonies in the U.S. Apple vs Samsung court, Phil Shiller’s and Scott Forstall’s. Apps people, apps! What good are our tablets, smartphones or phablets with massively powerful multi-core processing under the hood if they don’t have apps that can push the hardware to its limits? That’s possibly the thinking behind Samsung’s Smart App Challenge 2012, a global competition that the Korean company hopes will help boost the number of proprietary apps for their Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note.  Sammy has divided the contest into two categories – “Samsung Apps Super Apps” and “Best S Pen Apps” – and will hand out $4.08 million in prize money to 80 winners.
