Upgrade Samsung Epic 4G Touch (Galaxy S2) to ICS Firmware FB09

by: Alvin YbañezMarch 3, 2012

There are two factors that hinder Android users from tasting the sweetness of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on their devices—the device model and the carriers’ discretion. Fortunately, Sprint is alert to the requests of consumers and soon an ICS update will be expected on their Epic 4G Touch (Galaxy S2).

Although the update has yet to arrive, ACSyndicate developer Shabbypenguin was able to get a leaked copy of build FB09 of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich destined for the Samsung Epic 4G Touch.

The developer has taken the liberty of packaging the update into a flashable ZIP file.  What’s more is that the firmware is already rooted, deodexed, and [...]

XDA Developers member spacecaker gets the credit for cooking up this ROM, which is famously known as s>G<s II REVOLVED. This custom ROM is based on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread (build XWKS2/XWKS9) and brings the Android skin of Samsung Galaxy S2 to your mobile device.

by: Ken EastFebruary 24, 2012

Samsung Galaxy S2 users sure are very excited these days because their device is finally going to get its official fair share of Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in the first quarter of this year.

However, some just can’t wait any longer to get a feel of Ice Cream Sandwich running on their device, which is why custom ICS ROMs for the Galaxy S2 are in demand.

In the past few days, we’ve already seen a number of ICS leaks for the Galaxy S2, but there’s a recent leak to be intrigued about: XXLPB.  Despite still being in alpha development, the ROM is reportedly stable enough for daily use.  While the official ICS upgrade for Galaxy S2 users is still [...]

Upgrade Samsung Epic 4G Touch (Sprint Galaxy S2) to Android 4.0.3 with Experimental CyanogenMod 9 ROM

by: Carl ParkerFebruary 24, 2012

Looks like even Sprint’s Epic 4G Touch gets a power up, thanks to CyanogenMod 9. At the moment, the release is experimental (alpha 3.1 as of this writing), ported from the current build of the CM9 for the Galaxy S2. Thanks to XDA Developers member sbrissen, this ROM is based on the latest AOSP sources, and incorporates some enhancements and tweaks.

Because this release is still an experimental build, there are still a number of bugs to be addressed. Some of the known issues are:

USB (phone will charge and there will be adb access but it will not mount) Signal bars are not accurate Stock browser will not work (use Opera or other browsers from the Market) No [...]

Update Galaxy S2 to Ice Cream Sandwich Based on XXLPB Firmware and with No TouchWiz

by: Carl ParkerFebruary 24, 2012

A few days ago, a new Ice Cream Sandwich firmware leak for the Samsung Galaxy S2 crawled down the grapevine.  The leaked firmware, referred to as build XXLPB, included interface 3D effects during scrolling and improved battery performance.

XDA Developers member althebyani has created a new Ice Cream Sandwich custom ROM based on XXLPB firmware, mixed with CyanogenMod 9 source. The custom ROM is called Thebyani ROM ICS for SGS2.  The developer has even done away with the TouchWiz UI to give the ROM a clean AOSP look.

Some of this ROM’s features include:

Fast booting. GPS has been fixed. Pure Ice Cream Sandwich. Improved battery life and [...]

Boom! The Last Four Months, Samsung Sold One Galaxy S2 Every 1.3 Seconds

by: Bogdan PetrovanFebruary 23, 2012

The Galaxy S2, in its various forms, has officially become Samsung’s fastest selling smartphone, smashing the record held by its predecessor, the original Galaxy S. The Koreans announced today that they have sold 20 million units of the Galaxy S2, which means that Sammy reached this major milestone seven months faster than they did with the Galaxy S.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 was first launched in April 2011 in South Korea, followed closely by a European release. The device only hit the North American markets (AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile) in early fall, which makes its performance even more impressive. As The Verge notes, since the American debut, the sales have gone skywards – [...]
