CyanogenMod 9 and AOKP come to the Galaxy S3

by: Gary SimsJune 18, 2012

For those who have Samsung’s new Galaxy S3 Android super phone but want something closer to the vanilla Android experience, rather than the heavily customized UI provided by Samsung, then here is some good news for you. The S3 is now part of the official CyanogenMod 9 nightly build process and will eventually receive an official stable version of CyanogenMod 9 when it is released.

Due to the hard work of XDA Recognized Developer XpLoDWilD, the Galaxy S3 has been added to the listed of supported CyanogenMod 9 devices. Initial reports are that the firmware is stable and highly functonal, however there are a few minor issues:

by: Bams SadewoJune 18, 2012

Unlike certain carriers in the US that are denying future owners of the Galaxy S3 their Samsung-given right of 50GB of free Dropbox storage, all Canadian folks will get their free 2-year cloud storage upon purchasing the Galaxy S3.

Mobile Syrup has gotten in touch with Samsung directly and received the following confirmation:

“New GS III users will receive a basic 2GB of free space with Dropbox (It is permanent). When they create their own Dropbox account or link their existing account to Samsung Apps, the user will receive 48GB more space through a promotional offer, for a total of 50GB. This is available for 2yrs. “

So yes, the Dropbox offer will stand [...]

Samsung and Apple got 90% of smartphone profits in Q1 2012

by: Chris SmithJune 16, 2012

Samsung and Apple, while bound by a multi-billion dollar business partnership, are also fierce enemies, especially in the mobile space where the two companies are competing both in the smartphone and tablet businesses.

Recent research studies that Samsung managed to move past Apple to become the number one smartphone maker in the world, but the race is very tight, and we’re not looking at a complete Samsung win yet.

What’s clear is that the two corporations are making a lot of money off of their mobile divisions, and a new study from ABI Research shows that between them Samsung and Apple managed to get 90% of smartphone profits in the [...]

Samsung Galaxy S3 delayed in Canada due to “unprecedented global demand”

by: Bogdan PetrovanJune 15, 2012

In just a short paragraph, Samsung has just crushed the dreams of countless Galaxy S3 fans in Canada. OK, not really crushed their dreams, but still, I bet it’s irritating to have to wait an extra week to get the S3.

Here’s the full statement:

Due to unprecedented global demand for the highly anticipated Samsung GALAXY S III, with more than 9 million carrier pre-orders to date, the date of availability for purchase of this device in Canada, is now June 27th. In advance of the GALAXY S III availability date, most carriers and retailers are offering customers the chance to register on-line for updates, and some partners are offering their customers the option to [...]

by: Bams SadewoJune 15, 2012

Good news for those who have yet to pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S3 on AT&T. Both Target and Amazon Wireless have the Galaxy S3 listed for $149.99. There’s a catch to the promotion, though.

The $149.99 deal for the Samsung Galaxy S3 on Target is only valid for those who are looking to upgrade their phones on AT&T. If you’re a new subscriber, the price is set at $189.99. Pre-ordering the phone now will guarantee that it will be shipped on June 21, which happens to be AT&T’s official launch date for the Galaxy S3 as well – says the fine prints.

Pre-ordering the Samsung Galaxy S3 on Amazon Wireless will also get you that $50 price cut from the [...]

Verizon: Galaxy S3 shipping date pushed back another day

by: SamJune 15, 2012

Just over a week ago, Verizon started to let their customers pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S3. However, unlike their direct competitors, the folks at AT&T or Sprint (shipping the Galaxy S3 on June 21), Verizon disappointed a lot of eager customers when they announced that they will only begin selling Samsung’s hit device on July 9. As if that was not bad enough, now Bid Red has gone back and changed the shipping date from July 9 to July 10.

It’s only one day, so nothing to get into a fuss about, right? Well, after going through months of rumors and teasing, 24 hours should not be much of a problem, although I am sure that at least some Verizon customers [...]

How Samsung kept the secret on the Galaxy S3’s design and features

by: Chris SmithJune 14, 2012

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of the best, if not the best, Android smartphones launched this year, but Galaxy S fans waited for months for Samsung to unveil the device. The Galaxy S3 was not announced at CES or MWC as initially expected, and Samsung kept everyone in the dark regarding the phone’s design, features, and availability dates until early May, when the company held a special London-based event to announce the handset.

In addition to being Samsung’s best smartphone creation to date and its current flagship device, the handset was also the most secret such project of the company. For once, Samsung managed to keep the characteristics [...]

Galaxy S3 add-on pack for the Galaxy Nexus [video]

by: ClaytonJune 14, 2012

With all the hype about the Galaxy S3 these days, does it still pay to own the Google phone? Of course it does! Galaxy Nexus owners receive all OTA updates, have gratuitous amounts of developer support, and still own one of the more powerful Android devices to date.

Regardless of these facts, many owners are itching to taste some of that GS3 goodness, and we don’t blame them. The device and its software are simply epic. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for the Galaxy Nexus’ developer community to provide loyal owners with a way to do it!

What is needed?

Now before I delve any deeper into this Galaxy Nexus transformation, it is important to say that [...]

Sprint Galaxy S3 staff training videos leaked ahead of launch

by: Chris SmithJune 13, 2012

The Sprint Galaxy S3 is already available for pre-order and it will be launched in just over a week from now, on June 21. For that matter, in addition to Sprint, Samsung’s 2012 flagship device will hit five more U.S. carriers this summer including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and C Spire.

In case you’re particularly interested in purchasing the device from Sprint, then you’ll be happy to hear that no less than 15 Galaxy S3 training videos for Sprint employees have been leaked, each one demoing certain features of the handset.

The videos, posted by Inside Sprint Now, are very short (45 to 80 seconds) but they each show [...]
