After fears of its bypassing the U.S. and after Hurricane Irene pushed back its unveiling event one day later, the world-famous Samsung Galaxy S II was officially announced today and will be arriving on mobile carriers Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
Sprint’s variant will be in stores starting September 16 for US$200 (with 2-year contract). It will be called the Samsung Epic 4G Touch (not the Samsung Epic Touch 4G or the Samsung Galaxy Within as initially rumored). Sprint also announced that it will start accepting preorders for the Samsung Epic 4G Touch starting today.

Samsung Mobile had originally slated the much-anticipated variants of its global bestseller smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II, for launch today, August 29, in New York City. However, owing to Hurricane Irene, the festivities had to be moved a day later–tomorrow, August 30.
As of this hour, CBC News reports that Hurricane Irene has slowed down into a tropical storm. This may mean that the sun will be up and about for tomorrow’s unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S II in New York.

At least six new Android 2.3 Gingerbread devices are falling upon AT&T this fall (or late summer), according to an alleged AT&T roadmap detailing the devices’ internal codenames, operating systems, display resolution, RAM, camera resolution, battery capacity, HSDPA category, and release period.
The screenshot of the alleged roadmap was leaked to Pocketnow and shows that two devices each come from Samsung and Pantech, and one each from Motorola and Huawei.
