Is the iPad 2 Old Tech Already?

by: Darryl DoakMarch 23, 2011

This morning at CTIA 2011, Samsung brought us a revised Galaxy Tab 10.1″ that has beat out the iPad 2 in its thinness and light weight specs. This of course brings to question how long does your tech stay current these days? I remember when I bought my myTouch 4G in December, it was already old tech and had been passed up weeks before. But how old is the iPad 2? It was announced 20 days ago and already another manufacturer has announced a tablet that trumps it in every category except app count. I know, I know. Whenever I point something like this out I get a lot of comments that its not about hardware specs and its about the overall experience with Apple products. But [...]

iPad 2 Vs. Motorola Xoom Vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

by: Darcy LaCouveeMarch 4, 2011

With the iPad 2 having been formally announced yesterday, the blogosphere is hard at work comparing the latest and greatest Android Tablets, and Apples latest iteration of the iPad.

While the Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 are certainly the more technically superior devices, and initial reviews of Android 3.0 Honeycomb have been quite positive, it will ultimately come down to which one sells more. Currently, Apple has dominated the tablet market, but this is without any competition. Things are about to heat up.

Already, competition is doing wonderful things for consumers. When the Motorola Xoom was introduced, we were led to believe that the price [...]

Champions of MWC 2011

by: Darcy LaCouveeFebruary 20, 2011
Samsung Samsung Galaxy S II

We really have to hand it to Samsung – because they really produced some amazing stuff in time for MWC 2011. While their offerings at CES were somewhat lackluster, MWC 2011 was a completely different story. Among Samsung’s most impressive tech introduced at MWC was the Samsung Galaxy S II. It looks like it will be the most powerful smartphone of 2011, and has some incredible technology packed inside it.

It features Samung’s own dual-core 1.2GHz Exynos chip, which is more than a match for the LG Optimus 2X, the Motorola Atrix, and the Motorola DROID Bionic. Thankfully, the wonderful technology it contains doesn’t stop there.

With 1080p [...]

Motorola Xoom Vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1-inch

by: Darcy LaCouveeFebruary 16, 2011

Motorola Xoom has a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels with 160 dots per inch (dpi) pixel density. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 offers a 10.1-inch, 1280 x 800px, LCD display screen. It’s difficult to discern any difference when comparing the displays in person, and both are excellent.

Operating System

Both the Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 operate on the ‘tablet only’ Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS that offers better 3D UI and attractive widgets. Thankfully, there is no manufacturer intervention, and updates should (theoretically) be timely and prompt.

Processor and RAM

The Motorola Xoom features NVIDIA’s Tegra 2, [...]
