The Nexus 7 is available officially in certain markets – USA, Canada, Australia and UK – with Google and third-party retailers already shipping the device to customers that pre-ordered the device. In fact, the tablet is sold out with some of Google’s partners that already went through their initial Nexus 7 stock.
The tablet is definitely the talk of the town – we have dedicated plenty of coverage to the Nexus 7 ourselves – and the web is filled with Nexus 7-related reviews, opinions, videos and unboxings.
Today we’re looking at a hilarious montage made by a Nexus 7 fan that watched various unboxing videos from certain tech blogs, news [...]
We have talked extensively about Google’s recently announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system, and while we have shown you its main features in posts and videos here on Android Authority, we now have the full official changelog of the new OS.
Google posted on its Android page a full list of new features available to Jelly Bean users, and here are some of the hidden perks we may have missed during our initial Android 4.1 coverage – features that even Google did not insist on while unveiling the OS:Support for USB audio docks, shipping later this year. WebView now supports vertical text, including Ruby Text and other [...]
Announced in late June at Google I/O 2012, and available for pre-order ever since in select countries – both from Google and other third-party retailers – the Nexus 7 finally started shipping yesterday. At the same time, Google authorized its retail partners to start selling the tablet in their stores, with companies like GameStop, Staples, Sam’s Club or Office Depot having already received Nexus 7 stock.
Reuters reported on Friday afternoon that the Google tablet sold out with various U.S. retailers including GameStop, Staples, Sam’s Club, while Office Depot “continued to offer the device for sale as of the afternoon.”
GameStop went [...]
It’s been a rough day today for anxious Nexus 7 buyers that have been counting the days and hours until their precious Jelly Bean tablet reached their doors.
In early morning we picked up a rumor that Google may be shipping the Nexus 7 tablet today, at least according to one reddit user that received shipment confirmation via email – we even checked that tracking number ourselves, although until writing these lines, his package had not been delivered.
We then found out that not only is Ebuyer shipping (free of charge) Google Nexus 7 pre-orders in the UK today, but that GameStop has been cleared by Google to start selling the tablet in [...]
A few hours ago we told you that the Google Nexus 7 tablet may be due today. We have even showed you proof that some pre-orders are supposed to be delivered today, at least according to emails received by at least one Nexus 7 buyer and now we have further updates for you.
Our readers have jumped in to tell us that Ebuyer is already shipping the tablet in the UK, even though we previously heard the Nexus 7 was supposed to be launched only next week. Moreover, other readers said that GameStop has received Nexus 7 stock and that it’s now allowed to sell it.
We have been able to confirm both reports, so the good news, for some of you, is [...]
We continue to report on the Nexus 7 release, since the device is currently the hottest Android device out there, but we can’t produce an actual launch date yet. Google promised at Google I/O a mid-July launch for its Jelly Bean device – its first tablet ever – and has been taking pre-orders ever since announcing the device.
We have no idea how many units the company sold thus far, although Google did reveal that pre-order numbers for the first day were “big.” The device is still available for pre-order directly from Google Play, but also from various other third-party retailers in the U.S., Canada, Australia and the [...]
The Google Nexus 7 has been one of the most talked about devices in recent times. And with good reason! The Nexus 7 is the first device to introduce the possibility of high-speced devices at comparatively very low costs. If that isn’t enough, the Google slate will also be the first tablet running the highly-anticipated Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. Following its announcement at this year’s recently concluded Google I/O, we thought we knew everything we could possibly learn about this device.
Apparently we didn’t.
The Nexus 7 also houses a magnetic sensor at the bottom left corner of the device (in portrait orientation) [...]
Well, this is a strange twist of events! The Nexus 7 has been called by many reviewers already the “Kindle Fire killer”, because there’s no reason why anyone would want the Kindle Fire over a much higher quality and much higher performance Nexus 7. That’s even more true if you’re an Android user, who is best served by having the latest software straight from Google, instead of a heavily customized older version of Android. And yet, an Amazon spokesperson told TechRadar: “People higher up in Amazon are talking to Google regarding the Nexus 7.”
This move may seem even stranger considering that Amazon is about to launch the [...]
Yesterday we heard that the Google Nexus 7 tablet may be available from Office Depot starting today, but it turns out that’s not the case anymore. In fact, we have a new screenshot that reveals that the first Jelly Bean tablet in the world has been delayed. The device is still available for pre-order from the retailer, but we don’t have any official release date for you at this time.
Apparently Office Depot has received Nexus 7 stock, but they came with strict instructions not to be displayed and not to be sold at this time. Any Nexus 7 shipments have to be held and locked up “until further notice.” I would assume Google is not yet ready to [...]
A few days ago we had an initial prediction of how much it costs to build the Nexus 7 from iFixit, which said that the components alone should cost around $184. IHS iSuppli did an actual Nexus 7 teardown and evaluated the cost of the components to be around $152, for the 8 GB Nexus 7, and only $7.5 more for the 16 GB version.
Andrew Rassweiler, who leads the teardown team at IHS iSuppli thinks Google will indeed break even on the 8 GB $199 version, just like Google said they would, but they will get a nice profit on the 16 GB $249 version. This was pretty obvious from day one, because 8GB of storage doesn’t cost [...]
