If you’ve watched LG and Samsung over the past decade or so, you would’ve realized just how similar Samsung and LG products were in the vast majority of cases. At some point, I even started to think about LG devices as cheaper, poorer alternatives to Samsung’s devices. But why was this happening?
Samsung and LG are both from South Korea, and both being 2 of the biggest consumer electronics companies there, it would be hard not to get “inspired” by each other’s products. But then I started noticing how some of LG’s products, that came out almost in the same time with the Samsung product appeared the same, [...]
Jumping on the humongous phone-slash-mini tablet bandwagon a bit late, it’s been expected for quite some time “that Verizon will release its variant of LG Optimus Vu”. We last heard about the 5-inch device when it made a stop at FCC, now some pictorial evidence of the device in the wild has emerged.
Android Police has attained pictures of the LG Optimus Vu that dons the Verizon logo in the front and 4G LTE mark on the back. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S3, the Optimus Vu does seem giant-like. If the pictures are legit, it’s a sure sign that Verizon customers will soon have a phablet to call its own pretty [...]
Although LG made the Optimus Vu “phablet” available as a Korea-only device back in March, we suspected that things won’t stay the same for a very long time. However, seeing that the 5-incher was nowhere to be found in the US or Europe almost four months after that, we pretty much lost hope for the gadget to ever become globally released.
That’s until we spotted a set of FCC approval documents for a mysteriously codenamed LG VS950 device, which has every chance to be the first US version of the Optimus Vu. How can we tell? Well, it’s pretty easy. Just take the stripped down phone schema that appears in the certification papers and compare it with the Korean Optimus Vu [...]
LG hasn’t done the greatest job in providing its customers with (official) updates to the latest and greatest Android version, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but, fortunately, things seem to be on the brink of a change.
Just a few days after officially announcing three phones as set to get ICS in June, the first of the trio is already reported as receiving the much awaited and anticipated upgrade. The Optimus LTE, one of LG’s most popular smartphones in Korea, is currently getting the OTA update to Android 4.0, as well as a UI bump to the newly released Optimus 3.0 overlay.
The guys at The Verge were the first ones to report on the news, after picking up a tweet from [...]
So what we have here… Some jolly good news about the arrival of Android 4.0 ICS to a few LG smartphones.
Unfortunately, except for the LG Optimus LTE, which is more popularly known in the US as the LG Nitro HD and LG Spectrum, the rest are phones that have not made it outside their native South Korea. According to the LG’s website, the trio will be getting the official ICS treatment starting from June 4.
Along with the ICS upgrade, the three phones will be getting an UI makeover in the form of the newly designed Optimus 3.0 overlay, which can also be found on the upcoming LG Optimus LTE 2 and Optimus 4X HD. Specifically for the LG Optimus Vu, the [...]
Starting from the brick-style cell phone of the late Eighties, the design of the mobile has progressed towards being smaller and more feature-rich. We saw the introduction of flip-phones, slider phones, and smaller candybar style devices.

That is, until the smartphone burst onto the scene like a crazy man in a theater, which switched and reversed the trend rapidly: faster processors, larger batteries, more storage and high-res displays have changed the way we use our phones. This allows for easier internet browsing, e-mail, video calls, and HD music and videos. While ultra-thin has become the new craze, we’ve seen [...]
