Is it hot in here or is it just LG that’s feeling the heat of a backlash from disgruntled customers who aren’t getting the promised Android 4.0 update for their devices? Whatever is that they’re doing, it’s apparently working, as LG – the Singapore office, at least – has taken to Facebook to announce the coming of Ice Cream Sandwich for several models.

Back a few months ago, I wrote an article explaining the top reasons why you shouldn’t buy a cheap smartphone. While I still hold true to the principle that you should always go for the highest-end smartphone you can afford, the actual reality is that many people simply can’t even afford to buy a mid-end smartphone (catch a list of the top mid-end smartphones of 2012 here), not to mention a top-end Android smartphone. And then, there’s the category of people that simply don’t want and need the ultimate best in Android smartphones. In these situations, the only remaining choice is to go for a cheap smartphone.

Android 2.3.4 Update for LG Optimus Black Now Available

For LG Optimus Black users who have been patiently awaiting an update, the Android 4.0 is not yet available. Instead, an update for Android 2.3 Gingerbread has started to roll out and is currently available in India and some parts of Europe. It won’t be too long before other markets will get the update too.

Once users get to update their smartphone’s OS, they will be using Android 2.3.4. While other competitors are already gearing up for the latest Android 4.0 OS, the Ice Cream Sandwich, the Optimus Black is still getting the Android 2.3 update. Even though it is a little outdated, it is still a lot better than Android 2.2 Froyo.
