When it comes to corporate rivalry in the smartphone market, many people seem to believe that the Google vs Apple rivalry, or the Samsung vs Apple rivalry are the two best examples one can come up with. But from where I’m standing, the LG vs Samsung battle represents the biggest and most intimate rivalry that you are ever going to see.
Just think about it: both these tech giants are based in South Korea, they both make some of the best Android smartphones you can find, not to mention that they are also the two biggest display panel manufacturers in the world. In fact, their rivalry goes beyond smartphones and encompass almost every single [...]
Having a smartphone not only removes the need to wear a wristwatch, but it is also quite handy to quickly jot down some information when a piece of paper and pen are out of grasp. LG gets the frustration that some have over the issue, an hence, alongside the new Optimus 3.0 UI overlay, they introduced the note-taking application QuickMemo.
The QuickMemo app first found its home in the LG Optimus 4X HD, but it looks like LG is ready to bring the app to a wider audience. As announced by the company, QuickMemo will be heading to the entire L-series smartphones, which for now include the LG Optimus L3, L5, and L7. The update is already being [...]
When everyone else was playing with their single-core phones, LG was first to deliver a dual-core smartphone in the Optimus 2X. With the Optimus 4X HD, however, we’re seeing LG playing catch up with other major players in the high-end quad-core field. It seems only logical that the Koreans are trying to make up for the lost ground by launching the phone successively in many regions. The phone arrived in Europe in late June, followed by a launch in several Asian countries.
Folks in North America shouldn’t feel left out if they’re not seeing the Optimus 4X HD in stores yet. LG [...]
LG has released its Q2 results today, and the mobile division is not looking so good, losing 28.5% revenue compared to last year, which amounts to a $2 billion reduction. That seems like a huge loss, but there’s also a pretty good explanation for it, and things are not as bad as they seem for LG.
LG is seeing this sharp revenue loss in the mobile division mostly because of the transition from feature phones to smartphones, throughout the world. LG used to be a very big feature phone manufacturer, and although they’ve increased their smartphone shipments from 36% (of all units) to 44% Q0Q, they haven’t managed to take full advantage of this transition [...]
Following the release of HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3, the third quad-core Android smartphone from a major manufacturer, the LG Optimus 4X HD, is set make its debut in India and Singapore.
Androidos.in reports that LG will announce the coming of LG Optimus 4X HD during a press event, which will be held in Mumbai on July 20. While there’s no solid information yet on the price of the Tegra 3 phone in the country, the Optimus 4X HD is expected to retail in the INR 35,000 range – or the equivalent of US$640.
Singaporeans, meanwhile, will get their quad-core Android offering from LG [...]
If you’ve watched LG and Samsung over the past decade or so, you would’ve realized just how similar Samsung and LG products were in the vast majority of cases. At some point, I even started to think about LG devices as cheaper, poorer alternatives to Samsung’s devices. But why was this happening?
Samsung and LG are both from South Korea, and both being 2 of the biggest consumer electronics companies there, it would be hard not to get “inspired” by each other’s products. But then I started noticing how some of LG’s products, that came out almost in the same time with the Samsung product appeared the same, [...]
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is barely a few weeks old and we are already seeing a lot of encouraging signs from the developer community, although manufacturers have been far less forthcoming in announcing their plans for JB.
Of course, when you say developer community, the first name that comes to mind is CyanogenMod. The CM team is already hard at work preparing the new CM10 (CyanogenMod’s version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean). The good news is that the difference between ICS and JB is not that big, meaning that we won’t have to wait six months to see the new CM10. The bad news is the differences are significant enough to require manual code mergers, which means that flashing [...]
