Welcome to the very first installment of Android Authority Q & A. Each week we’ll be taking from you, our wonderful readers, and answering them both here and in video form.
LG has officially released the Android ICS update for its Optimus 2X smartphone in Europe. The update, which was delayed for many months, is now available for download to European users.
The flip-flopping that LG has done in the past in terms of Android 4.0 updates for the Optimus 2X is well documented by Android Authority. After re-confirming that Ice Cream Sandwich won’t come to the handset, a different branch of the company reported otherwise. Last we heard the software upgrade was already sent via OTA to a Korean version of the phone, the SU660.
Ice Cream Sandwich is hitting the Optimus 2X as we speak, but for now it’s available only for the Korean handheld (aka model number SU660). Other country-specific models of the phone are expected to get the software leap soon, with the Singapore version being most likely next on the list.
Is it hot in here or is it just LG that’s feeling the heat of a backlash from disgruntled customers who aren’t getting the promised Android 4.0 update for their devices? Whatever is that they’re doing, it’s apparently working, as LG – the Singapore office, at least – has taken to Facebook to announce the coming of Ice Cream Sandwich for several models.
Just when we thought it was all over and done, another tweet, this time coming from LG Korea, contradicts the “official announcement” from July. After many delays and cancellations, the Android 4.0 upgrade seems to be back on the table for the LG Optimus 2X. At least in Korea.
Back a few months ago, I wrote an article explaining the top reasons why you shouldn’t buy a cheap smartphone. While I still hold true to the principle that you should always go for the highest-end smartphone you can afford, the actual reality is that many people simply can’t even afford to buy a mid-end smartphone (catch a list of the top mid-end smartphones of 2012 here), not to mention a top-end Android smartphone. And then, there’s the category of people that simply don’t want and need the ultimate best in Android smartphones. In these situations, the only remaining choice…
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this looks like the end of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update journey for the the LG Optimus 2X. It’s a wonder it ever begun in the first place. LG Canada made the puzzling announcement on its Twitter account, as it answered a question from a follower about the ICS upgrade for the Optimus 2X. The only explanation given was that any prior announcement made of the upgrade was “a general statement” issued by the HQ office. Yeah, we don’t think that’ll go down well with Optimus 2X owners who…
While LG seems to be looking towards the high-end smartphone future with great ambition, the company’s high-end devices from back in the day are being ignored big time. The Optimus LTE2, unveiled last week, looks pretty great on paper, and the LS970 Eclipse, leaked yesterday, has some out of this world specs, but what about the Optimus 2X? Released more than a year ago, the Optimus 2X was a pretty cool gadget at the time, coming with a dual-core processor, an 8 MP rear-facing camera and a more than decent 4-inch IPS LCD screen. However, the phone didn’t find its…
LG O2X and LG G2x users don’t have to wait for the official release of Ice cream Sandwich to experience it’s new features, now you can experience it with more added features in Cyanogenmod 9 by Arcee of Rootzwiki Forum.
