Trying to shake off its second-tier (third?) image, Huawei has been polishing its Android offerings this year in hope that it will make the leap to the next class. The result can be seen in the company’s Ascend series. After being launched in Australia and Canada, the Ascend P1 will be vying for some love from UK customers soon.
The Huawei Ascend P1 will be available for purchase from Vodafone UK in early August – the full availability details haven’t been shared yet. But for those customers who don’t mind being tied to the carrier, the phone can be yours for free if you shell out at least £26 a month for the next two years on a Vodafone [...]
The wafer-thin Huawei Ascend P1 is about to enter the Canadian market with a bang. Teaming up with Alliance Films and Wind Mobile – as the phone’s first confirmed carrier in the country – Huawei Canada is holding a “WIND Mobile Expendables 2 Sweepstakes” contest. The lucky winner will get to go to Los Angeles to watch the movie premiere of “The Expendables 2”, starring action flick hero Sylvester Stallone.
But first, here’s more information about the Ascend P1 and its launch in Canada. Though the phone comes in a diminutive 7.6 mm body, it boasts a dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4460 processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display of 960×540 resolution, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal [...]
Although it’s still not a name to be reckoned with in the Western technology world, Huawei is certainly making efforts to change that and get in the high-end mix. The Ascend P1, P1S and especially the Ascend D Quad are the devices that could put Huawei on the map in Europe and the US, but unfortunately they still can’t be found in many parts of the world outside Asia.
Huawei will also be trying to draw the attention of tech users with a couple of software innovations, the most important one being the introduction of the Emotion UI for Android 4.0 ICS. The user interface, unveiled back in May, now has its own official website (in Chinese) and should be up for grabs soon [...]
The Ascend P1 is just one of the many upcoming Huawei offerings that the Chinese hope will make forgotten their cheap phone reputation. While the slim Ascend P1 recently made a stop at the FCC in the US, it appears our Australian friends will get to play with the Ascend P1 a bit earlier.
According to Ausdroid, the Huawei Ascend P1 is now available to purchase in Australia from retailer Dick Smith. It seems Huawei has taken the subdued route when launching the P1 down under, since there’s little to no hype around the 7.69mm phone. If you got AU $499 laying around and are looking for a new phone, it’ll be enough to get you the unlocked version of the [...]
Chinese device manufacturers such as Huawei and ZTE are very popular in their home market and now vying for a piece of the Android smartphone pie on the world stage.
Huawei in particula had a great showing at this year’s CES and MWC, where they featured devices such as the Ascend P1, the Ascend P1S, which for a while held the title of the world’s thinnest smartphone, and the Ascend D quad, which the company claims is the world’s fastest smartphone.
Unfortunately, Huawei isn’t well known in the world market, a market already saturated with amazing devices like the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3. What’s the best way to become a [...]
