The HTC Thunderbolt was the world’s first handset to launch with 4G LTE support, but Verizon was not able to release it in a timely manner in early 2011, with various delays annoying potential buyers along the way.
And it looks like not even HTC can deliver when promising updates for its former flagship handset. Or is Verizon to blame again? The handset was expected to receive its Ice Cream Sandwich update by the end of August, but it looks like HTC was not able to deliver it.

Still waiting for an official ICS upgrade on one of HTC’s (too) numerous 2011 phones still running Android 2.3 Gingerbread? Well, we have some (partially) good news for you. While no exact rollout dates have been announced yet, a Facebook comment from the company’s official account should be reason for optimism.
No, unfortunately we’ve heard nothing good about the Desire HD, which, as far as we know, won’t get Ice Cream Sandwich. However, HTC is planning to “finish updates by the end of August” for at least two phones, previously announced as getting ICS bumps over the summer.

With all the recent attention towards models like the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the HTC One X, the HTC Thunderbolt isn’t exactly basking in the spotlight anymore.
That being said, there are millions of Thunderbolts still in use today, and they make for a dang good daily driver. HTC just gave word on its’ official Facebook page that the first round of Android 4.0 updates would be available before the end of March, and it looks like the HTC Thunderbolt will not be in the first round.
