The HTC Thunderbolt was the world’s first handset to launch with 4G LTE support, but Verizon was not able to release it in a timely manner in early 2011, with various delays annoying potential buyers along the way. And it looks like not even HTC can deliver when promising updates for its former flagship handset. Or is Verizon to blame again? Earlier in the month, HTC has announced on its Facebook page that it’s planning to wrap up the ICS upgrade roll out for several devices by the end of August, namely for the HTC Thunderbolt and the HTC Desire S. Given how tumultuous the road to ICS often is, where delay is but the name of game, some may need to take the news with a pinch of salt. It’s a different story for the HTC Thunderbolt, however, as an official ICS ROM for the HTC Thunderbolt has made its rounds on mobile enthusiast forums.

Still waiting for an official ICS upgrade on one of HTC’s (too) numerous 2011 phones still running Android 2.3 Gingerbread? Well, we have some (partially) good news for you.
