August Topnotchers: Top 5 Android Phones

In the coming months, the Android landscape will definitely change, pending the release of much awaited phones like Nexus Prime, Droid Bionic, and Galaxy S II, as well as the high anticipation for Ice Cream Sandwich. Until then, there are phones in the market that can give the rest of the bunch a run for their money. Here’s a list of our August topnotchers and what makes them worth your hard earned cash.

Update: This list compiles the latest US Android releases so it might be missing some of the fancier phones your region might have available.

HTC Tool Now Unlocks More HTC Phones

The bootloader unlocking section on the recently launched HTC Dev site has been updated yet again, and 4 variants of the HTC Sensation have been added to the list; namely, the T-Mobile USA, Turkish, Arabic, and Bouygues Telecom versions. Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D has also been marked as unlockable using the HTC-provided unlocking tool.

Unlocking the bootloader simply means that the owner of the device can customize the software on the device, or in simpler terms, install custom/modified Android software on the phone. The bootloader basically controls which applications must run during the boot process.

What’s Next for HTC?

The ‘quietly brilliant’ HTC has recently made known that they will be conducting a press affair in the UK this coming 12th of April. We really don’t know exactly the main reason why they will be having a press event, but we do have a few hints. They sent invites saying “Join us to see what’s next.” HTC’s 2011 lineup seems very promising, and we expect them to have some great news for us on April 12. Also, the theme of the invite looks like metallic liquid. Does this convey anything about what will happen or what will be revealed during the press event? Quite interesting, isn’t it?

HTC Finally Has a True Superphone – the HTC EVO 3D for Sprint

Now it looks like the Android Superphone Wars of 2011 are finally getting serious. Thinking a while back, I was mulling over what hardware – soon to be released or otherwise – that would deserve a place in my pocket. Phones like the LG Optimus 2X, the Motorola Droid Bionic, the Motorola Atrix, the extremely powerful LG Optimus 3D, and the beautiful Samsung Galaxy S II all came to mind. Where is the HTC phone you may ask? Finally, we have received reputable reports from BGR that a ridiculously powerful HTC Superphone will be debuted at CTIA.
