It’s official, folks, Verizon is getting a new phablet this winter, after the LG Intuition and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. And as expected, that third model is going to be HTC-made and will be known as the Droid DNA, the U.S. version of the HTC J Butterfly that was announced for Japan a while ago.
When HTC unveiled the splendid 1080p J Butterfly “phablet” in Japan, it was pretty obvious that the States were going to be next in line to get the monster phone. After a string of leaks and speculations, Verizon confirmed the launch under the Droid DNA branding, but a few things remained in a fog.
While we’ve known that it was on the way for some time now, Verizon Wireless officially confirmed the HTC Droid DNA today through its Google+ page and its “Droid Does” web site.
There certainly is no shortage of information when it comes to leaks and rumors surrounding the HTC Droid DNA. Today alone we have seen the leak of a new Verizon marketing image that shows off the upcoming HTC phablet, and shortly after we learned that Verizon and HTC were holding a press event in New York City on November 13th. Now one of the most detailed renders of the HTC Droid DNA has also been leaked.
An invite to an event held by both HTC and Verizon appears to state that they will reveal their ‘latest collaboration’, on November 13th in NYC.
Last week a press shot for the so-called HTC Droid DNA surfaced, suggesting an early December launch for the rumored smartphone. If that wasn’t enough proof that the HTC J Butterfly was coming to the United States as a Verizon exclusive, don’t worry, we have more. A Verizon promotional image has now been leaked clearly calling the 5-inch HTC phablet by the name Droid DNA.
Well, we can’t say that HTC hasn’t warned the world about the treacherous roads ahead. As the Taiwanese phone maker shares its October sales, investors are bracing themselves for the worst. It’s clear from the numbers that HTC hasn’t figured out a way to reverse its downward spiral.
The HTC Droid DNA, also known as the HTC DLX or HTC Droid Incredible X, is the Verizon-bound HTC J Butterfly version that will soon compete against other Android phablets that are already available from the carrier including the LG Intuition and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
It seems that the arrival of the rumored HTC Droid DNA could be imminent. The 5-inch HTC phablet first graced us with its presence in mid-October when it was announced for the Japanese market as the HTC J Butterfly. In the weeks following, rumors popped up suggesting the J Butterfly would eventually make its way to the United States exclusively for Verizon as the HTC Droid DNA. Now we have a leaked press shot that suggests the Droid DNA will arrive in early December.
Verizon’s upcoming 5-inch 1080p device named HTC Droid DNA has been published as a registered device on its support page before the official announcement.
