Samsung CEO not attending CES to prove a point

by: Kristofer WoukNovember 20, 2012
CES is one of the largest tech events in the world and many major players attend the event to show off existing products or announce new ones. CEO of Samsung, Kwon Oh-hyun, however is making a point of not attending, apparently to prove that there is a 'Chinese Wall' between Samsung's smartphone and component divisions. Maybe that requires a little more explanation.

CES is ‘Irrelevant’

by: Christine TorralbaJanuary 17, 2012

So what’s this we hear about the CES becoming an ‘irrelevant’ event? With the recently concluded CES 2012, there were a total of 153,000 attendees who witness over 20,000 new product launches. If this isn’t successful enough, we don’t know what else is anymore.

But regarding who dominated the event last week, the recognition goes, hands down, to Google for their Android. In fact, it has been growing stronger every year at CES. It just goes to show that we believe Rafe Needleman (CNET) was right when he said next year’s event will be populated by Google devices. Considering the fact that there is a daily count of 700,000 Android activations, this is a huge [...]

Huawei Ascend P1 Smartphone Hands On Review with Video

by: Darcy LaCouveeJanuary 11, 2012

Hey everyone! This is Darcy LaCouvee from AndroidAuthority, reporting live from the CES 2012. What I have here is the Huawei Ascend P1, it’s an incredibly thin device. We’re looking at a 7.69 mm profile, which is one of the thinnest phones on the market, it just blows away the thinness of the Galaxy S2 or even the Droid RAZR.

With this device, We’re looking at an 8 mega-pixel auto focusing camera on the rear with an LED flash. Inside we have a 1.4GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor with a SGX 540 GPU. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 4.01 actually on board. No dedicated camera button, incredibly thin profile, it tapers off at the bottom a little bit, but you know it’s [...]

Hands-On With the Lenovo IdeaTab K2010 [K2] Tablet – Tegra 3, IPS HD Display & More [VIDEO]

by: Darcy LaCouveeJanuary 9, 2012

We’re reporting live here from Las Vegas, at CES 2012! Lots of exciting things are coming up, and here’s our take on Lenovo’s latest tablet – with Tegra 3 and an HD display on board.

I just had a hands on with Lenovo’s IdeaTap K2 Android Tablet, and I do have to say it is one fine piece of hardware. The IdeaTab is sporting a Tegra 3 processor,  a full HD 1920 x1200 IPS display, dual speakers, and a 8 Megapixel camera. On the outside it is sporting a faux brushed metal back cover, HDMI out, Micro USB, full USB, data SIM card slot (possible 4g?) and an SD card slot.

The IdeaTab was sporting ICS, which was something I was pleased to [...]

CES 2012 – What To Expect?

by: AlexanderJanuary 4, 2012

Believe it or not but the first conference of 2012 is less than a week away. The 2012 International CES in Las Vegas will start up on January 10th, and of course Android Authority will be there to get the inside scoop on everything Android, be sure to say hello to us. So what are we expecting at CES, other then the obvious new Android phones and Tablets?

New Android Phones

With the announcement of Ice Cream Sandwich being almost 3 months ago, I would expect quite a few ICS based phones from all the major Android phone manufacturers like HTC, Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericcson. I am also expecting some quad-core processor goodness this year. Most of our [...]

Intel Medfield Android Device on CES 2012; Keep Your Fingers Crossed

by: Christine TorralbaJanuary 3, 2012

For its participation in this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012), LG is entering with one of the most anticipated devices at this time. If you have already heard about the upcoming Intel Medfield Android devices that LG will launch on January 10, here’s a little background on the powerful merger between the two companies.

In last year’s CES 2011, LG and Intel were both set to launch the Intel Moorestown-based LG GW990. Sadly, the event didn’t happen because both parties decided to pull out the project due to a lack of marketability in the product.Even though the first smartphone collaboration did not happen, the two companies went on to come up with an [...]

Should We Expect an Acer Iconia Tab A700 Launch on CES 2012?

by: Christine TorralbaJanuary 3, 2012

With CES 2012 just a few days away, it is no longer a surprise to news that has some correlation with it. We’re quite guilty with this too because we can no longer contain our excitement! We’re looking forward to seeing new gadgets pretty soon!

One of the gadgets worth mentioning is Acer’s Iconia Tab A700, which we hear, is about to be released on such date. Despite rumors, Acer has already announced that they will be joining the tablet market with the release of their Iconia Tab A200, a 10” tab packed with dual core processor and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade compatibility.

While Acer still has not revealed plans of launching the Tab A700, we’re [...]

Asus Transformer Prime Launching on January 12th in UK

by: LucianDecember 26, 2011

It seems the Asus Transformer Prime was delayed by at least a month compared to the initial reports that it will be launched on December 9th, then pushed to 19th, and now, at least in UK it was announced that it’s going to be launched on January 12th.

This is quite a delay, and we don’t really know what’s been causing this. When I first heard the Asus CEO that Android 4.0 could launch even by the end of 2011 on Asus Transformer Prime, I immediately thought it would’ve been a better idea to wait until it actually gets Android 4.0 instead of launching it with Android 3.2, get all the reviews like that, and then update it to Android [...]

Dual Core Android Phones in 2011

by: Darcy LaCouveeFebruary 2, 2011

[UPDATE May 5, 2011] Check out our latest amazing spreadsheet that has every single Android Superphone compared!

Here at CES, things are crazy! 2011 is shaping up to be an amazing year for Android Phone enthusiasts all around the world. 4 inch plus screens are going to dominate the market as more and more people will make it their mainstay device. With the Optimus 2X, LG launched the first salvo in the dual-core battle and having a dual-core processor will soon be the standard for high-end mobile devices. We should see a surplus of devices in 2011 which have multi-core processors and this can only be a great thing for consumers.

Having a dual-core [...]

Video: LG GT540 at Mobile World Congress

by: Michael OrylFebruary 22, 2010

Here is a brief video I shot at an LG event just outside the Mobile World Congress fairgrounds last week. The GT540 was announced at CES in January, and comes in a number of different colors – including pink.  It runs the Android 2.0 OS, features a 3.5mm headphone jack, and sports an autofocus 3 megapixel camera.
