by: Simon HillOctober 4, 2012
Android is continuing to dominate the worldwide smartphone market. Google’s open approach with Android is often cited as a major reason for the platform’s success, but recent events beg the question of whether that openness is a double-edged sword.

Barnes & Noble takes on Amazon with ad-free and light Nook HD

by: Gary SimsSeptember 26, 2012
Barnes & Noble has released details of its new Nook HD range of Android tablets, which are aimed squarely at Amazon's Kindle Fire HD line and Google's Nexus 7. The new tablets are on pre-order now and will start shipping in late October. These are aggressively priced, with the 8GB 7 inch Nook HD selling for $199 (just like the Kindle Fire HD). But of more interest is the 16GB 9 inch version which starts at just $269, compared to $299 for Amazon's Kindle Fire HD 8.9".

by: AdrianSeptember 6, 2012
The 7-inch tablet segment is certainly one tough and competitive cookie, and things are to get even more crowded soon. Microsoft and Barnes & Noble to announce tablet with Xbox Live streaming

by: Chris SmithJune 18, 2012

As you may have already heard, Microsoft will host a special media event later today, and, while the company has not revealed what product it plans to release, the word on the street was that Redmond will introduce its first in-house built Windows tablet today. But that no longer seems to be the case anymore.

A later TechCrunch report revealed that the unnamed device is a joint Microsoft-Barnes & Noble production and therefore it may not be based on Windows RT / Windows 8:

Both the Wrap and ATD claim the event will showcase a Microsoft built Windows RT/Windows 8 tablet. According to folks with knowledge of the situation, they’re [...]

Microsoft sides with Barnes & Noble to tackle Amazon and Apple, to invest $605 million in B&N

by: Bams SadewoMay 1, 2012

Though Microsoft is no stranger to patent battles of its own, the company isn’t shy of reaching a win-win settlement with other corporations. It looks like Redmond just killed two birds with one stone when it decided to jump into the e-book market by investing in Barnes & Noble’s Nook reader, while settling its patent lawsuit against the e-reader company.

Announced yesterday, the deal between Microsoft and Barnes & Noble Inc. sees Microsoft getting 17.6% share of the newly established e-book and college book business unit, in exchange for $300 million, which will leave B&N as the majority shareholder with $1.4 billion. Over the next five years, [...]

Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight announced, to go on sale on May 1 for $139

by: AdrianApril 13, 2012

Even though Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet has been clearly overshadowed by Amazon’s Kindle Fire, the basic Nook e-readers are still on top of  the shopping and wish lists of many users. However, the e-ink gadget was clearly in need of a refresh, as the Nook Simple Touch, the second generation of e-book readers from Barnes & Noble, was released almost a year ago. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait much more for a new and improved Nook Simple Touch, as the latest model has just gone up for pre-order, with shipments set to start on May 1.

The new Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight is pretty much the same as the old Simple Touch, with one very important upgrade. As [...]
