Asus makes the Padfone official in Australia

by 1 year ago

We reported back in June that the Asus Padfone was already available to purchase in Australia from Mobicity. Evidently, only now does Asus seems comfortable enough to share its plan of officially bringing the combo device to ‘Down Under’. The launch date of the Padfone in Australia has been officially set for August 14. You can get the smartphone and tablet combo at Harvey Norman for AU$999. Just to make it clear, the price covers both the Padfone and the Padstation. Compared with what they’re selling for in the US, the price tag  seems rather steep, but think of it as getting two…

ASUS Padfone receives firmware update to Android 4.0.4, and other performance enhancements

by 2 years ago

The ASUS Padfone, which was unveiled earlier this year at the Mobile World Conference, was expected to revolutionize the world of mobile technology. The device is certainly unique, and all-encompassing, with its ability to change from a smartphone to a tablet using a Padstation, which can further be used as a laptop using a keyboard dock. Unfortunately, this revolution costs $860 in the US, with no carrier willing to subsidize rates in sight. If you have shelled out the big amount, and are a proud owner of this revolutionary tech, you’ll be happy to know that a firmware update is now…

The Asus Padfone smartphone/tablet/netbook hybrid really caused a stir back at the MWC, where it was officially unveiled, and ever since February we’ve been asking ourselves if Asus’ innovative creation could really shake things up around the market. Just 24 hours after finding out that Asus is negotiating with several US carriers to bring a subsidized Padfone to the land of the free and home of the brave, we’re excited to let you know that the gadget is already up for sale in the United States. Unfortunately, we’re talking about a pretty expensive unlocked version of the Padfone, so you…

Computex 2012: Asus PadFone hands-on [video]

by 2 years ago

Android Authority’s Computex 2012 journey continues with another hands-on preview of an interesting Android device. This time around we’re looking at the Asus Padfone, a smartphone that quickly becomes a tablet, which in turn can be docked in its own, custom keyboard dock to be transformed into a laptop. The device will cost around $900 when it launches, and while that may seem like a steep price, we’ll remind you that you’ll be getting not one, but two devices, an Android smartphone and an Android tablet. In case you want to purchase a decent smartphone and an equally powerful tablet…

Asus Padfone goes for sale in Australia, no sight of keyboard dock yet

Crikey, who would’ve guessed that the Asus Padfone would be making its way to down under so soon. Well, we did kind of report it a couple of days ago, but we were only expecting the Padfone to come in July — at least that’s what Asus Australia said. The early availability of the device is good news nonetheless for our Aussie readers who are looking to get an Android phone and tablet combo. Thanks to the folks at Phandroid, we can tell you that the unlocked model of Asus Padfone is now available for purchase on Mobicity. The promotional price…

Computex 2012: Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Asus Padfone vs Samsung Galaxy S2 (video)

by 2 years ago

Having trouble choosing between 2012’s Phone of the Year candidate Samsung Galaxy S3 and the shape-shifting Asus Padfone? Check out the quick comparison video below to see how the two smartphones stack up against each other. To make things even more interesting, we’ve also thrown last year’s best-selling Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy S2 into the mix, so make that a three-way visual comparison. The red hot Samsung Galaxy S3 is the more attractive offering compared to the two. But for those who like the idea of a device within a device (within a device), the Asus Padfone should make…

We’ve been hearing for a long while now about the fabled Google tablet, presumably called the Nexus 7. The 7-inch slate will be powered by Nvidia’s quad-core Tegra 3 chip and will be manufactured by ASUS. Perhaps the most important tidbit we’ve learned so far about the Google tablet is its pricing, which will supposedly be in the $150-$250 range. Now that we’ve seen Nvidia’s Kai platform and Acer’s Iconia Tab 110, the $200 price tag seems increasingly probable. The general consensus is that Google will launch the Nexus tablet at the Google I/O conference taking place in San Francisco…

Asus releases official Padfone demo, the device within a device looks amazing! [Video]

by 2 years ago

Unveiled back at MWC in March, the Asus Padfone was one of the stars of the technology trade show. One of the most original devices of the past couple of year, the smartphone-within-a-tablet-within-a-netbook (it’s got a stylus too) seems almost too good to be true. After being first previewed more than a year ago, the Padfone should finally hit the Western markets sometimes soon. The all-in-one device has already been priced and released in Taiwan, and it’s expected to hit Europe by the end of May. The United States launch is not yet confirmed, but a fresh official demo video should…

With the excitement over the Samsung Galaxy S3 dying down (or is it?), it is once again time to look forward to the next device to create waves in the Android device world. While the Samsung Galaxy Note has been dubbed a “phablet” due to it’s large tablet-like screen size and phone capabilities, the ASUS Padfone is in a class of its own. The Padfone features an Android smartphone that docks into a tablet shell, which then functions as a tablet. This setup can further be connected to a keyboard dock, to work as a laptop. And it has a…
