Rumored to be announced at next month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain, the phone to the right is going by the codename of “Zeppelin”. This makes little sense as this phone has also been going by that name and has been made very official as of late (although since ditching the Zeppelin title). For now, we will call it the Motorola mystery until it’s formal announcement arrives. Specifications are said to include MOTOBLUR running on 2.0 or 2.1, a 5 Megapixel camera, a 3.2-inch HVGA display, GPS, and touch sensitive buttons below the screen.
The most interesting part of this picture is the Zune-like trackpad situated smack dab in the middle [...]
According to French blog, Mobinaute, Acer France unofficially confirmed that the Acer Liquid A1 will be updated to Android 2.0 in March 2010. The blog also hints that the upgrade may activate multi-touch, a feature typically seen on European Android phones and not their American counterparts. No word on whether the currently underclocked processor on the Liquid A1 will be unchained and allowed to operate at its full 1GHz capacity. If Acer did the unthinkable and incorporated multi-touch and 1GHz of processing power into this Android 2.0 update, then the Liquid A1 would become one the top Android phones and a very worthy competitor to the [...]
Remember that ultra sleek gallery app you’ve seen in the many Nexus One videos that have been posted in the last 2 weeks? Well, now you can have that app on your Android 2.0 or 2.0.1 device, but mainly the Motorola Droid. The team over at Droidmuff.in have discovered that it has been ported and is rather easy to install. There is no rooting necessary but I should note that it is slightly unstable. Here are the step by step instructions:Download gallery_flan.apk to your computer. Copy gallery.apk file to your sdcard. On your phone go to Settings, then Applications and enable Unknown Sources. On your phone, use a file manager such as Astro to browse to [...]
I just received a bit of New Year’s Eve cheer from my friends at General Mobile. I now have some decent specs and photos for GM’s second Android powered smartphone, the General Mobile COSMOS.
The specs for the COSMOS, below, are much better than those of the DSTL1 that General Mobile released earlier this year.Android 2.0 (Eclair) 900/1900/2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA 850/900/1800/1900MHz GSM/EDGE Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 w/A2DP, GPS 3.2-inch 320 x 480 HVGA capacitive touchscreen w/accelerometer 5 megapixel autofocus camera 256MB flash, 128MB SDRAM, microSD card slot (16GB max) 1500mAh battery FM radio, USB [...]
This one is coming out of left field so read it with a healthy dose of skepticism, but a rumor fresh out AndroidSPIN claims that the T-Mobile G1 will be upgraded to Android 2.0, possibly even Android 2.0.1. Supposedly, OTA updates for both Android versions have been prepared and both updates are already in the hands of a few choice people. The rumor does not specify which update will be rolled out or when the update may occur but we will keep our fingers crossed that Eclair for the G1 will be coming soon.
The Motorola Zeppelin has resurfaced with a couple of nice shots and an unconfirmed release date of, you guessed it, December 25th (China only). Translated specs include an ARM Cortex A8 processor, a 3.7-inch multitouch screen capable of 720p HD support, HDMI output, Android 2.0, a 5-Megapixel camera with LED flash, a 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.1. The phone has a clean look with no physical keyboard and seems to be lacking a physical search button. It also boasts support for both GSM and CDMA, and rumors state that this device could be the same as the FCC approved Motorola Titanium, listed with EV-DO Rev. A support [...]
In an informal and non-committal manner, Sprint announced today via Twitter that the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment will be updated to Android 2.0 in the first half of 2010. Both handsets are still running stock Android 1.5 and are lagging a bit behind the current crop of handsets which are rocking Android 2.0. Let’s hope all parties involved stay on top of things and get these updates into the hands of consumers sooner rather than later.
If you are heading out to get your free DROID Eris this weekend, you can make your purchase with confidence. A circulating rumor suggests that the Eris will be updated to the latest version of Android, complete with Sense UI and Google Maps with Navigation. The update will roll out in early 2010 and, depending on the timing, may bring the Eris from the slightly outdated Android 1.5 all the way to Android 2.1. Sweet!
It’s been a busy morning, indeed. Amid all of this Motorola MILESTONE news, I managed to get the full review of the Motorola DROID for Verizon posted on MobileBurn.com.
I came away being much more impressed with it than my initial impressions might have suggested. Sure, there are some ergonomic issues that bug me, and I stumbled upon a few minor bugs, but overall I was really loving the device.
I’m going to keep it around for a bit, too – just because I can. It’s a fun device, and the new Google Maps Navigation is a great tool for something that’s basically free.
So head on [...]
On its Twitter account, HTC yesterday said that an Android 2.0 update was forthcoming for the HTC Hero. The tweet in question didn’t specify if the update would be available for both the EU version and the Sprint CDMA version, though.
The rumors are true! Hero will be getting an Eclair update. We ask for your patience as we update Sense for the fancy new Android OS.
