AT&T One X: How to unlock your phone’s bootloader

by: Paul NuñalMay 31, 2012

Say goodbye to locked HTC bootloaders as the folks at the XDA Developers Forum have once again made the impossible a reality. HTC owners have already witnessed firsthand how hard it is to crack HTC bootloaders, most especially those devices that are coming from mobile carriers. The AT&T One X may be one of the first phones to sport a quad-core processor, but it’s also one of the many HTC devices that sport a locked bootloader.

Having an unlocked bootloader is necessary for users to install custom ROMs and other modified hacks on your device. If you have been addicted to flashing custom ROMs in the past, then certainly a locked bootloader will spoil all your [...]

HTC EVO 4G LTE and HTC One X receive their “get out of jail” card, regular shipments to commence

by: Bams SadewoMay 30, 2012

After some of its smartphones have been slapped with an import ban, which effectively quashed the dreams of many Sprint customers to have their HTC EVO 4G LTE on the original May 18 launch date, HTC announced today that the two held up devices, HTC EVO 4G LTE and HTC One X,  have received clearance to enter US soil. Normal shipments for the two models can finally resume.

According to the company’s official statement, they have “completed the review process with US Customs and HTC devices have been released, as they are in compliance with the ITC’s ruling. Future shipments should continue to enter the US and we are confident that we will soon be able to meet the demand [...]

The Galaxy S3 is upon us – which Android smartphones can stand up to it?

by: Mike AndriciMay 28, 2012

The Samsung Galaxy S3 – probably the most popular Android smartphone to ever go into production – has been announced at the beginning of the month, and it’s only a few days away from its debut in several European markets.

Now, one major question arises among Android fans worldwide: are there any Android smartphones that can compete head to head with the newest member of the Samsung Galaxy S line?

Before we jump into a detailed analysis of the smartphones that can rival the S3, allow me to spoil some of the fun by providing a quick answer to that question. Yes, there are Android smartphones (either only announced or already on the market) that [...]

Rooters rejoice: AT&T HTC One X bootloader unlocked

by: Shea HarrisMay 26, 2012

We finally have good news for those AT&T HTC One X users out there who like to root and flash ROMS.

A member of XDA-Forums named grankin01 has come up with an unofficial way to unlock the bootloader on HTC’s uber phone. This is particularly excellent news, considering we have no idea if HTC is going to release an official bootloader unlock tool.

Grankin01’s method of unlocking the bootloader basically tricks the AT&T version of the phone into thinking it’s a Rogers HTC One X, a version that does have an unlocked bootloader. If you are proficient at rooting and command line, you shouldn’t have much trouble [...]

HTC One X: Mod for disabling the in-app 3-dot Menu Bar or remap it to Recent Apps

by: Paul NuñalMay 25, 2012

The Ice Cream Sandwich update, known for its speed, performance, and stability, has satisfied many Android users. One of the most notable features of Ice Cream Sandwich was the virtual on-screen buttons that replaced the physical buttons. But, not all users were happy with the idea of the virtual on-screen buttons that consisted of the Back, Home, and Recent Apps button.

Just recently, the Menu button that was primarily used in bringing up the options in apps was removed and instead it only appears whenever an app is needed. This made many users furious, as the 3-Dot Menu takes away precious screen space in most cases.

Luckily for us, XDA Developers members [...]

ABI Research: Phablets to ship 208 million units a year by 2015

by: AdrianMay 24, 2012

Whether we like it or not, the time of the “petite” phones with touchscreens between 3.5 and 4 inches has passed and we are now heading towards the domination of “super-phones” and “phablets”. It’s practically impossible to find a high-end Android smartphone released during the last few months (or due for release soon) that has a display smaller than a 4-inch and the biggest hits of the market seem to fall in the 4.6 to 5.3-inch range.

Our own Ankit did a very thorough analysis of what he called “the rise of the phablet” last week and, if anyone doubted the future success of such devices, you now have one more reason to start doubting your [...]

HTC One X: How to make HTC Sense 4.0 launcher run smoothly and with no lag

by: Ken EastMay 24, 2012

If you’ve got an HTC One X, you may have noticed a bit of lag when navigating around the user interface. Don’t worry, you are not the only one who’s been experiencing this problem. HTC Sense 4.0, the latest version of the Sense UI, has an issue when you scroll through the pages on the home screen. It lags or stutters, which annoys most users.

The HTC One X is one of the most amazing Android devices if you consider power and stylish design. Its attractive, smooth edges make the device look very classy and slick, not to mention that it’s in possession of a great looking touchscreen display. The device has several features to brag about, such as [...]

HTC: Customs’ reviews done for some phones, now on their way to US carriers

by: Bams SadewoMay 21, 2012

For many, waiting is the most boring thing to do, and it’s even worse when you don’t even know how long you have to wait for.

Though there’s no official confirmation yet from Sprint, your wait for the HTC EVO 4G LTE might end sooner rather than later. Responding to the US import ban on the company’s two flagship phones, the HTC EVO 4G LTE and HTC One X, HTC was apparently able to speed up the customs’ review process. Note that initially we were told that the review could take up to three weeks.

In a written statement that the company has filed to the Taiwan Stock Exchange, HTC revealed the good news. “Some of our products have passed the review and have been [...]

CoreControl App for HTC One X gives you more CPU control

by: Shea HarrisMay 20, 2012

If you’re an Android user who loves to root your phone, you’re probably well versed on the benefits of apps that allow you to control your phone’s CPU. From over and under clocking, to setting CPU governors, apps such as SetCPU give you ultimate control over the performance and power saving of your device.  Now the good folks over at XDA-Developers have developed a similar app for the quad-core HTC One X.

CoreControl, created by XDA member Meltus, allows you to control how many cores in the HTC One X are active at time. Root access is of course a requirement, and the app will simply force close on an unrooted device. The app is quite useful if you aren’t getting the [...]
