Who said tiny Android smartphones with crappy screens and sub-par single-core processors are a thing of the past? Not us, not T-Mobile and certainly not Huawei. Or else why would the two be working on a follow-up to last year’s Prism?

The second-gen Prism, also known as the Huawei U8686, is to still feature a pitiful spec sheet on the whole, although there will be at least one silver lining. A major one, in fact – Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.

That’s two whole generations up from good ol’ Gingerbread running on the original T-Mobile Prism. Not to mention it’s darn impressive for a phone that’s supposed to be lower end than low-end.

But enough with the good and out with the bad. According to the most notoriously accurate leaker in Android history, @evleaks, the T-Mo Prism 2 will pack a 1 GHz single-core CPU. That marks a significant progress over the 600 MHz SoC found inside the first Prism, but it’s still light years away from something with a real wow factor.

The display could be even more disappointing, as it’s apparently supposed to boast a QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels). That’s worse than what the first Prism had to offer (480 x 320 pix res), but hopefully there’s a typo in evleaks’ latest tweet.

Everything else about the second Prism, including release date and pricing, is kept secret. Chances are the little guy (most likely still a 3.5-incher) will land by April with a $250 price point off-contract tops. That was what the first Prism sold for initially, with 100 bucks being shaven off by T-Mo recently.

As for design, there are a couple of tweaks to note, including a funky back plate and the reduction of on-screen buttons from four to three, but all in all the Prism 2 looks a lot like the first – it’s very portable and yet a tad chunky. Anyone interested?
