If you’re a T-Mobile customer and plan on traveling to Cuba anytime soon, you’re in luck. The Un-carrier has just reached an interconnect and roaming agreement with Empresa De Telecomunicaciones De Cuba, the Cuban telecommunications company, that will allow the carrier to offer more affordable voice calling for folks who want to keep in touch with friends and family in Cuba. This deal will also see T-Mobile offering voice, text and data roaming to its customers traveling to Cuba starting this summer.

T-Mobile Simple Choice customers will now be able to call both landlines and wireless phones in Cuba from the United States for only $0.60 per minute. That’s a massive 65 percent less than it costs today. If you’re interested in taking advantage of these savings, you’ll need to add on the monthly “Stateside International Talk” feature to your plan, which costs $15 per month.

There’s a pretty good reason the carrier is focusing on Cuba — it’s what the customers want. From the press release:

More than a third (36.6%) of Cuban-born wireless customers are with T-Mobile, more than AT&T and triple the number of Verizon customers. And, customers in Cuban-American hubs like Miami are choosing T-Mobile and MetroPCS nearly twice as often as AT&T or Verizon. Not surprisingly, Cuba is the #1 requested addition to T-Mobile’s international roaming on social media. Naturally, the Un-carrier is listening and responding to its customers.
