Stormbound: Kingdom Wars is exiting its soft launch stage and is now available on the Google Play Store. The collectible card game (CCG) has been available in just a few countries around the world since July, but now everyone is able to get in on the fun.

In Stormbound, you take on the role as the ruler of a powerful kingdom. Your task? Build the most powerful deck of cards possible to defeat the three rival kingdoms by destroying their bases. The game revolves around playing cards from your hand onto a game board. Your warriors will try to march to the other end to deal damage unless they’re stopped by the opponent. Each card has a mana requirement as well as strength and movement levels which will remind players of Magic: The Gathering or Hearthstone.

When your warriors come in contact with enemy units, they do battle with the strongest coming out on top and the loser being obliterated. Be careful of spells and abilities that can wipe out your warriors or enhance enemy combatants too. Once you defeat your opponents warriors and get to their base, you’ll eat away at their health until it hits zero and you’re declared the winner. Each win will see you picking up new cards of varying strengths and rarity.

When you first open the game, you’re greeted with an easy to understand tutorial that teaches you the basics and wets your appetite for more.  There are three tutorials in all that really help you get a feel for the game. As you continue on in your journey you’ll collect stronger and rare cards that will unlock abilities and special attacks. If you don’t want to wait, you can purchase packs with real money that can guarantee commons, rares, epics, or legendary cards. You’ll then to your cards to your deck and take them into either the campaign mode or battle mode. In campaign mode, you’ll battle the computer whereas battle mode pits you against real-life players from across the globe.

The art style and animations are fun and clean and the top-down view lets you easily keep an eye on what’s happening on the board. Long pressing on cards enables you to see the mana requirement, strength, speed and special abilities it may possess. The game feels well thought out and has been fun to play in the time we’ve spent with it.
