Earlier this year, Sprint announced it had acquired a 33-percent stake in TIDAL, the streaming music service that includes hip hop artist Jay Z as its main owner. Today, Sprint finally announced that its new and current wireless customers will benefit from this deal. They can snag an extended six month free trial of the high-end TIDAL HiFi service. It normally costs $19.99 a month, or $16.99 per month if you pay for six months up front. The free trial offer begins on Friday, June 9.

TIDAL HiFi offers subscribers audio streaming with “lossless High Fidelity sound quality” compared to the company’s $9.99 a month TIDAL Premium service, which streams audio in standard sound quality. Both subscription tiers also offer access to HD music videos and curated content. After the six month free trial to TIDAL HiFi is completed, Sprint customers can choose to continue paying for the service at $19.99 a month. They will also have options to switch to the cheaper TIDAL Premium tier, or to cancel their TIDAL service completely.

Even though TIDAL, which launched in 2015, has managed to give its subscribers access to a number of exclusive albums and songs from top artists, its total number of users are believed to be well behind its main rivals in the music streaming industry such as Spotify, Apple Music, and others. The company has previously claimed it had signed up three million users for its service, but those numbers have been disputed by analysts and music industry executives. Today’s new announcement from Sprint did not reveal any current subscriber numbers from TIDAL. It did state that Sprint customers and current TIDAL subscribers can expect more exclusive content from the service to be released in the next few months.

Sprint also announced today that, beginning on June 9, it will donate $2 from every new line activation with a device purchase or lease to the 1Million Project. This program has the goal of offering one million low-income high school students in the US free mobile devices and wireless Internet access for up to four years.
