The Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 launch is facing some unexpected issues, with the carrier announcing that it won’t be able to have the smartphone available “in stores and other channels” on Saturday, as promised.
The statement, quoted by AllThingsD, can be read in its entirety below, and it blames “unexpected inventory challenges from Samsung” for the delay customers will be facing.
Sprint is excited to launch the new Samsung Galaxy 4. We had planned to launch this next generation of the award-winning Samsung Galaxy line-up on Saturday, April 27. Unfortunately, due to unexpected inventory challenges from Samsung, we will be slightly delayed with our full product launch. Sprint is one of Samsung's largest partners and we are working closely with them to launch in all Sprint channels as soon as possible. We expect to make GS4 available at www.sprint.com and Telesales (1-800-SPRINT1) as planned on Saturday with Sprint retail stores and other channels receiving devices as inventory becomes available. Sprint statement
The announcement comes shortly after the carrier announced it sold out its initial Galaxy S4 pre-order batch. On the other hand, it’s good to see that you can still order the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 through website and Telesales on the planned date.
What’s interesting is that T-Mobile has also announced a delay in Samsung Galaxy S4 availability, the reason quoted there being a similar one, “an unexpected delay with inventory deliveries.” In that case, though, it’s online sales that are suffering.
It’s pretty hard to imagine Samsung suffering the kind of component shortages that HTC faced a while ago, so these problems should be solved soon enough.
Do you plan on getting the Samsung Galaxy S4? Where do you plan on getting it from?

I smell PR here. After AT&T announcing they’ll even manage to realease the S4 early and estimates reaching 10 million on first month, it is unlikely to turn out that Sammy has just $500 ready for World Launch.
This is either to generate more buzz, apply last minute SW update, or world-wide launch simply so large that even the millions will evaporate quickly.
Supply shortages? Not with Sammy.
