Update: It looks like Sprint’s Galaxy Note 4 is also getting its update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow starting today. To check for the update, head to Settings>System update>Update now.

Original post: Sprint has announced that an Android Marshmallow update will begin rolling out for its branded version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 from today. This download will update the Galaxy Note 5 to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, bringing with it a selection of new features.

Samsung’s TouchWiz interface has received a few changes that brings it up to date with the company’s new Galaxy S7 releases. There’s also a new default Samsung web browser complete with ad-blocking support, and a selection of new app icons, folder designs and animations that improve the feel of the UI. On Google’s side, there are now granular app permissions for greater user privacy control, Google Now on Tap contextual search, and Doze app sleeping optimizations that should help improve battery life.

The update also includes some Google and Samsung security patches, which are presumable built from the latest March release, along with a selection of unspecified bug fixes.

Other US carriers have already begun updating their Galaxy Note 5’s to Android Marshmallow. Verizon started pushing out Android 6.0.1 at the beginning of March, followed by AT&T a week later.

Sprint states that this release is a phased roll out, as usual. This begins today on March 24th and will be completed by April 8th, so you might have to wait a couple of weeks before the software update notification appears for you.

Just checked this morning and there it is! Downloading it right now. Had Marshmallow on my HTC One M8 HK edition before I got the Note a month or so ago – and loved it on the M8! So, I am looking forward to it on the Note. 1.3GB download though! :)

  • Chris

    How about some tmobile love?

  • AT&T has NOT sent out the 6.0.1 update, that was a SECURITY UPDATE and was confirmed as such. It is actually still in BETA testing and has not been released, that has been confirmed to me by 2 AT&T reps now.

and to take a jab….AT&T, dead last up updates AGAIN. Idiots.

  • Chad Higgins

    What about Note 4 Sprint????

    • Biga173rd

They said the Note 4 is getting the update today as well.

      • Chad Higgins

Yup i got it 1394mb and its 6.0.1

        • Menaka Nawagamuwage

Is the theme changed on the Note 4

        • Biga173rd

Awesome man let us know all the new features and the difference.

          • Daggett Beaver

I’m messing with Touchwiz before I go back to Smart Launcher Pro. One change is that when you swipe to Flipboard, it’s a lot faster. I’m still turning that off, though.

          • Chad Higgins

The difference is bettery battery life and much faster. Super smooth. Love it!!!

    • Chad Higgins

Sorry folks after checking for updates today i got it!!! 6.0.1 its 1394mb

      • Menaka Nawagamuwage

Is the theme changed on the Note 4 please reply

        • Daggett Beaver

I don’t use Touchwiz, so I don’t know, if that’s what you’re talking about. Everything else seems very similar, although a lot of the settings look rearranged and somewhat different. I like the new S Pen Air Command from the Note 5. I haven’t tried the “write on lock screen” yet. I’ll probably go back to Touchwiz Launcher for a while just to see what it’s like, but I’m addicted to Smart Launcher Pro.

        • Chad Higgins

No the theme is still Samsung Note 4 theme. But its much faster now, smoother, and better battery life!

  • Eric Hobart

How do I remove the Sprint carrier label from the status bar? I could remove it in Lollipop but can’t find out how in Marshmallow??

    • Biga173rd

Wow really? how do you do that in Lollipop?

    • Daggett Beaver

Yeah, I noticed that. I don’t remember how I got rid of it in Lollipop.

    • Chad Higgins

Apparently they are not Better at updates! They are Always LAST.
My Note 4 got it today. But my Note 5 with ATT still 5.1.1 and wont see 6.0.1 BUT maybe they will just skip to Android N 7.0 ??? Hahaha yeah right

      • Menaka Nawagamuwage

Is the theme changed on the Note 4 and what are the other improvements

      • Joel Travis

I have note 4 with straight talk when will I revive the update 6.0??

    • BiteMe

Sprint is constantly better than AT&T as far as updates goes. They are usually one of the first to update flagships.

    • abn

You said it Supposed to be.

  • Biga173rd

    Finally!! it’s about freaking time.

  • Jason Byrnes

I just got the Marshmallow update from Sprint and I’m using a Galaxy S6 Edge+ device. So we got it early it seems.

  • Lasse Friis

They are already way behind and i’m afraid that here in Denmark it’s already too late. Many stores are already using the danish app “mobilepay” which is pretty much the standard here at this point.

  • Toddsummers

Where the crap is “The Un-Carrier, T-Mobile” with their update?

    • Bradley R Beaver

I used Samsungs program for Windows and when I plugged in my phone the update was ready. Or you can use Odin and flash it. I have the 920c which is an non-carrier international version.

  • Eleazar Parham

My T-Mobile Note 5 hasn’t gotten an update yet :(

  • NERO47 Two

Downloaded the update last night (sprint). Note 5 randomly restarting???

    • BiteMe

Not to sound like a brain dead carrier tech BUT doing a factory reset will most likely fix your random reboot problems.

  • Truid

Us T-Mobile users have been spoiled with always having the first update, guess we’re last this time…

  • Bravo Alpha

Yup, AT&T takes last place. Grrrrrrr

  • Bodie Colotti

You don’t want it. I have a Note 5 on Verizon. I got the update to 6.0.1 on 3/16/16. Since the update , fast charge won’t work, and any p.c. it connects to says “USB device not recognized ” spent 2 hours on the phone with Samsung support. Their answer was “obviously a software issue, send it in for warranty ” . Did so, new phone came with 5.1.1 and works flawlessly.

    • James Theodore Retuya

Wow your deduction skills are exceptional! Great use of logical fallacy!

    • abn

And you have the big V.

    • Daggett Beaver

Both fast charge and PC connections work fine on my Note 4 after the upgrade to 6.0.1. Odd that it wouldn’t work on a Note 5.

  • abn

Have my S6 edge + update today with sprint phone works excellent. I have an ugrade if I want but gonna pass this phones been great with or without update. But wait a minute you guys seen possible specs for note 6. If its true theres my next phone.
Gsmarena has some info. Check it out

  • Joel Travis

have note 4 with straight talk have 5.1 when will I get 6.0?

  • Joel Travis

have Verizon note 4 using straight talk tho when will I receive update please respond been waiting along time

  • Michael Kreyssig

I’m a little ticked that the live weather wallpaper is no longer supported. I liked that feature.

  • Daggett Beaver

Dang. I did exactly what I said I wasn’t going to do. I said I was going to wait a few months to see how well it worked for others. Instead, I took the update today on my Note 4. I guess I’m just an incorrigible nerd, like most others. So far, so good, though.

    • Gumbopudding

I’ve seen comments of horrible battery and wifi issues on note 5. Please let us know if you see it on note 4.

    • Major Sceptic

Half your luck mate , international model note 4 (australia) here, not a whisper of 6.0 as yet : (.

  • Jake

Hopefully this will mean that I will get it for my Note 4 N910C soon!

  • Paul

Just updated my Note 4 this morning ( at 11am 3-24th central time ) Marshmallows 6.0.1 is over 13K MB.Is big difference over Lollipops, the icons more round and interface is better. ..recommended update. btw I’m a Sprint

  • abn

Top of the line Tmob. Lol. Big gun Vzone lol they have other issues and At&t & wheres ours. Good ole Sprint right on it.

  • Choda Boy

Of course, with my Samsung flagship phone, I have been enjoying stylus and multi-window support with no need to root or install a custom ROM. How long has your Nexus had that?

  • David Dunshea

No update to aussie note 5. Hey samsung we are over here

  • Darlene

The update looks pretty, but my WiFi stopped working. Now I’m having to use my data plan to access email, Facebook . . . everything. This really sucks!
