Simple to play but hard to master; that’s the perfect descrption of a great space-based arcade shooter. Today, one of the better examples of that genre, Xenoraid, is available to download for Android in the Google Play Store. The game, from developer 10Tons, was previously released for consoles and the PC.

Similar to games like Geometry Wars and Asteroids, Xenoraid has you controlling a star fighter against waves of alien ships that need to be taken down to protect Earth and the human race. You control the ship as it moves around in each level, taking the time to learn about special tricks like fighter tilting and weapon heat. As you progress in  the game you can unlock new and more advanced spacecraft to fly, along with upgrading your ship’s weapons and technology.

Of course, the alien ships also get more and more advanced and harder to destroy. Xenoraid features over 40 missions in its single player campaign, including four big boss battles. There are also three survival missions which offer endless waves of enemies that keep going and going until you finally get destroyed, You can compare how you did with your friends via online leaderboards. One interesting thing about the game is that the missions are procedurally generated, so each time you play it should be a different experience, and you won’t be able to rely on pure memory when enemies pop up.

10Tons is an experienced developer, and it’s great to see that they are bringing more of its PC and console games like Xenoraid to mobile devices. Keep in mind that while you can download and play part of this game’s content for free, you will have to make an in-game purchase to unlock the entire thing. Normally, that price is $9.99, but from now until Feb. 8, the unlock price is just $4.99.
