Sony Yuga to feature Galaxy Note 3 chip, 3GB RAM, 128GB storage – all to be unveiled at CES 2013?

Sony Yuga

Sony is getting better and better at making Android products, and the company is rumored to have some interesting plans for next year.

We already know at least two code names for upcoming Sony Xperia devices, the Yuga and the Odin, which keep popping up from to time on our radars. Add to that the Xperia 4, Xperia 5 and Xpera 5R and Xperia 6 we’ve heard of a few days ago, and you end up with a plethora of Android handsets that could be unveiled in the coming months.

But now there’s an even wilder rumor out and about concerning the Yuga, and this one includes a set of specs and features for the device. And they look like nothing you’ve seen so far on a smartphone, no matter what operating system it would run.

According to a post on it168 forum the Sony Yuga will offer you the following:

  • Samsung Exynos 5 Quad CPU
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 5-inch OLED display Full HD
  • 128GB storage
  • 16-megapixel camera
  • 3000mAh battery
  • Water and Dust resistant
  • IR blaster

The same forum poster says that the Exynos 5 Quad core that will be equipping the Yuga will not be used by the Galaxy S4, but by the Galaxy Note 3 next year. Moreover, the Yuga, as detailed above, should be unveiled at CES 2013 next month as a “major surprise.”

Is it all just wishful thinking? Is it a phone only Santa could make? We’ll grab our grain of salt and wait another month to see what Sony brings at its CES booth in Las Vegas.

i really hope its true cause it would really bring Sony back into the realm of high end android phones if they dont mess up the design of it too badly

    • Jerry li

only thing i worry about is if they can keep the prices at reasonable level though
since if they can deliver these specs and also keeps mrsp at about 650 unlocked and maybe 200 -300 network subsidized it should sell

      • ijks

Yeah. Nothing higher then 299.99 for contracts (maybe 349.99), but I really doubt Sony can price it at 650 unlocked IF these specs are true.

        • Jerry li

yea 650 would be a steal and they might resort to low quality components at the price well no higher than 800 should be reasonable

  • yay

I hope this is true. Wanted to give Sony a try, after being stuck with Samsung for a while :)

  • Shit just got real.

    • not really. I highly doubt that Samsung will let Sony use their CPU. and Shit will get real when Samsung announce the galaxy s4. it will demolish this.

      • Peter Sharpe

You mean how samsung let Sony use its oled screen in the PSvita?
Or that the galaxy sIII uses a sony camera?

Companies share components all the time, it doesnt mean anything

      • ijks

What Peter Sharpe said is right. Samsung isn’t Apple where they have like 1 phone and 1 tablet. The reason Samsung holds such a huge hold in the mobile market is because even if it isn’t Samsung phone that sold, they still make money since many other phones are using Samsung components. If these specs are true for the upcoming Sony phone, I doubt S4 will demolish it, but that Sony phone will cost A LOT of money.

        • give me a example of ONE device with a Samsung exynos CPU. ONE PHONE THAT USES IT, not made by Samsung. Companys might share components, but not CPU’s.

  • leo

    its mine!

  • Matt

this would destroy the competition, i believe that sony COULD possibly accomplish this. Especially with the way smartphones are going. I just dont understand the 3Gb of RAM…Seems odd that they wouldn’t just bump it to 4, as usual take these rumors with a bucketload of salt. The rumors on the galaxy s3 started off as crazy as these

    • Joeseph McParsquenslyheim

I think they can’t use 4 is because android is 32bit?

  • Sam

I wish they’d keep their asymetrical color-scheme. I hate turning a phone around half the time to turn it on…

  • Dr.Carpy

If this is true, Sony will own the 2013.

    • sorry, then won’t. Wanna know why? It’s cos Samsung exist.

  • MasterMuffin

What screen size is it, because if that is a 6″ phone, it’s “easy” to put those specs in it + it wont sell so good because of the super phablet size!

    • AndroidBrian

      5 inch

      • MasterMuffin

Well, just rumor, I remember the rumors about nexus prime and sgs3….

        • AndroidBrian

Yeah…. Like i mentioned earlier, I don’t believe this shit for a second. Just answering your question. Its listed as 5 inches.

          • MasterMuffin

            Ok good :D

  • i guess SONY have finally understood that they r the big daddy not some microwave and noodle manfacturer (ps SAMSUNG)

    • gsrg

      LOL! The processor is Samsung’s…

  • Coolkid

1.Those specs are not meant for Yuga but for Sony’s Q4 device which is still unnamed…

    2.Those specs are purely FAKE….

3.We created this rumor on some forum… Then copied us… Then you(Androidauthority) got it from them & posted it here…

It’ll be good, if U remove this post ASAP… Cos none of those specs gonna be there when this device is announced at CES… You better remove it right now….

    • AndroidBrian

      Shut up

    • @ Coolkid

Exactly! The Specs of the H1 flagships Yuga and Odin are pretty well known by now: 5″FHD, S4 Quad, 2GB RAM, 32GB ROM, 13MP Exmor RS, one will be water and dust resistant and the other one will have infrared.

      • Coolkid

        @twitter-208590190:disqus Yes… Exactly…:)

  • AndroidBrian

Looks like someone just thought of the best possible specs 4 cell phone and listed them off. I’ll believe it when I see it. Doubt it.

  • gra

If it has an sd card lot, then I’m sold. I just hope it looks good. Although I doubt this is true.

    • hoggleboggle

that was my initial response, but with 128Gb of storage on-board it would be superfluous and might make it tougher to make water & dust resistant

    • Cole Raney

Normally I agree, but if it has 128 GB of storage, then I can deal without an SD card slot

  • aa

Note 3 will be 6.3. Sony always behind others.

  • Quryous

FINALLY, some decent storage. I am already regretting my purchase of the Galaxy Note 2 with only 16GB. Had it less than 3 weeks and it is essentially FULL.

On my second 64GB SD chip, too. Man, I’ll be glad when things get a bit bigger on the Samsung products. I LOVE the Note 2, everything except the 16GB of RAM.

They ANNOUNCED up to 64GB, but NO ONE will sell it to you. It essentially doesn’t exist. They should have NEVER even made a 16GB version. In this day and time 64 should be minimum. And they need 128GB SD chips, too.

OLED display was originally developed by samsung. There was a inccident where some other company’s workers stole the technology and tried to sell it to rival companies like sony.
Samsung/LG got furious and sued the company, also than began patening like 3000 patents…..
doubt that oled will be possible.

  • David Evans

These specs are over inflated, it would be hard to justify this device configuration taking in count, price points, device battery life, existing competition and future software in development that could best utilize this hardware configuration.

    • you would need custom water cooling to keep this cool LOLOL

  • cycad007

Nope…the Yuga is slated to use the Qualcomm APQ8064 not the Samsung Exynos 5 Quad (Source: The Verge).

IMHO, it would be idiotic for Sony to use Samsung’s CPU. Unless its absolutely necessary…why would they support their biggest competitor? Picking a Qualcomm CPU over a Samsung chip has other benefits as well. First, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro *DESTROYS* the Exynos 5 Quad in performance. Second, Qualcomm chips are made by TSMC whose process-technology (28 nm) is superior than Samsung’s (32 nm)….this likely translates to the CPU being less power-hungry and more efficient.
