Red Sony Xperia Z1 spotted in the wild, reportedly running KitKat

The Sony Xperia Z1 was officially announced back in early September, sporting three different color choices: white, black and purple. Fast-forwarding to today, it looks like a special edition red Xperia Z1 might also be in the works.

The red version of the Sony Xperia Z1 was first spotted in the wild thanks to a series of images posted up on the Xperia Guide website. While Sony has yet to officially confirm this model, the pictures certainly look reasonably legit. Of course there’s still a chance the images could be fake, and so speculation is certainly advised.

That said, Sony is known for offering their devices in a wide range of colors, so the idea of a red Xperia Z1 isn’t exactly out of character. There is one curious oddity found in the pictures, however — the mention of Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

We admit this is fairly suspect, considering we haven’t even seen Android 4.4.1 yet. Still, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the color itself isn’t the real deal. We also know that Sony is already preparing to bring Android 4.4 KitKat to the Xperia Z1 sometime in the not-terribly-distant future, so perhaps this is some kind of test version? Hard to say for sure.

It’s worth noting that even if Sony really is preparing to release a red Xperia Z1, there’s no way of knowing which markets it will actually come to. What do you think, would you like to get your hands on a red version of the Xperia Z1, or are you perfectly happy with the existing color choices?

Even Sony Xperia’s receive Android updates before Nexus, apparently. Bahahaha

    • adrian strozier

Uh no they didn’t. Knowing Sony they are just testing the device. Now as the owner of the Xperia Z1 and ZL I would love to see my devices get the kitkat treatment. That being said if this is a taste of things to come in the near future I’m very excited to own a Xperia device

I would defiantly go for a red phone, and since its the Z, who would complain

    • bweee

Why would you “defiantly” go for a red phone? It “definitely” seems you like a red phone, but you would only go for one “defiantly”

      • tech4life

        It was a typo…

  • MasterMuffin

That Os version is fake, the guy who made it copied the first 4 on top of the 2 to make 4.2.2 into 4.4.2. It’s clearly visible, look at the white under the second 4

        Thanks but no :D

        • MadCowOnAStick

yeah, and 4.4.2? really? my nexus 5 is only 4.4 xD

    • yo

Look at the white under lots of other letters. Duhhhhh…. The photos are real, but the android version could have been modified in the build info.

      • MasterMuffin

No it definitely isn’t. The second 4 has white spot under it which should be red like the rest of its background. Can’t you really see how fake that is?. ..

  • Benjamin

The 4.4.2 is suspiciously fake. The second digit 4 looks smaller on the edges as compared to the first digit 4. And the look and feel of the about phone is so 4.2.2, and why wouldn’t he show the UI instead? He’s just showing the red back cover and the front of the Z1. FAKE!

  • Ryan Daniel

I don’t really care about the version of Android or the color. I just want the damned thing to drop on a network so I can afford one.

They are fake photos we share to our fan page just for fun (see the album description for detail). Why did XperiaGuide use our photos without confirmation from us?

Please check secafe.vn, we don’t have any article about this because it’s not real.

    Thanks you
